Hi Guys, I went out "hunting" today and managed to score a couple of nice pieces at a gun shop in a small farming town a couple of hours drive from home. The one of interest to this forum is a sidearm/bayonet for the Police of Baden. It was made by WKC and it's still in pretty good shape. The handle and scabbard furniture are made of unplated brass. The checkered grips are made from wood. Aside from the manufacturer's logo the only marking is "1393" stamped on the crossguard. Here are some pics of it along with a couple of pre-Christmas finds, a Bavarian issued M71 and one from Wurttemberg.
Best regards, Len

Very nice Len! The gold Baden Police sidearms are very hard to find.

Hi George, Thanks for your comments. Does anyone know why there are gold and silver variants? Municipal police vs. Rural? Officer grade vs. lower grades?
Best regards, Len

Len,
The silver colored ones were generally for municipal police while the gold colored ones were rural. The larger ones (like yours) were service bayonets and will sometimes show issue stamps or numbers while the lighter weight ones were mostly Extrawaffe. I see very few of the gold colored ones.

Len,
Great Baden. I've owned several of these but never come across a gilt example although I've seen Orpo's posted here on GD several times. Beautiful in it's simplicity & oh so rare. Really a super piece all around, thanks for sharing it with us.

Len, congrats on your score! How I wish that I had half a chance to visit a gun shop and score such a fine item like a golden Baden!

Yeah, Billy. I just picked up mine from Wittmann about 3 months ago. You don't tell your friends when you have a minty Eickhorn for sale? Shame on you. John
Always looking for Eickhorns and etched bayonets.

This discussion recently took place on gunboards.com. Thought you might find it interesting in that an Alcoso made Baden Police Bayonet has popped up. This is a first for me, at least. I've previously only seen WKC & Eick's. Scroll down to post #15 http://forums.gunboards.com/sh...=1325575#post1325575
