Been looking for a matched KM bayo for some time now but haven't yet seen one. Anyone know where would be a good place to look?
Also been looking at some online retailers of WWII militaria, can anyone suggest a trusted online retailer?
Thanks for looking
Cheers
Dan

Hi all, Just noticed this for sale on the bay. Described as a match Kriegsmarine K98 bayo. Hope its ok to post link to live auction... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...WAX:IT#ht_939wt_1167With my inexperience on the subject - as I'm still wet behind the ears when it comes to K98s - would I be correct in identifying this bayo as a reworked bayo? Going by the description on the listing, it mentions a 'O' serial number stamped on the guard, near the release button & on the sheath. Question: Shouldn't the serial finish of with the letter 'K'? I've read online that Yugo reworked bayos are also marked this way. Would I be correct? Look forward to everyones input in the matter Cheers Dan

Hi Andy, its strange. The blade has no maker mark but the scabbard is 44ddl. There is also serial number #2097C on the blade and on the sheath.
I have ask for better pictures but I'm still waiting to receive it.
Would there have been Kriegsmarine K98 bayo up till 1944?
Dan

Dan I don't think so - 1940 is the latest I've seen. Regards Richie

Thats what I thought - that is I'm going by Arnaud K98 Registry - 1940 is the latest he has and there is one with ddl markings. Going by the description on the listing would you guess its a rework piece? Thanks Dan

Dan, no way there is a leggit KM marked bayonet in 1944. We don't see anything on the picture, so difficult to give an opinion. Should be a rework. Specially all 44ddl must have red bakelite grips, which is not the case of this one. I would strongly suggest NOT to buy it.
Arnaud
If it's '44 dated, I need it!

Hi Arnaud,
Didn't think it was. The grips is what strikes me the most after comparing it to other 44ddls (thanks to your website) plus the serial stamped near the button. Just seems odd.
Thought was my lucky day a matching KM turned up but alas it is not to be, so the search continues.
Cheers

I did a post a while back on a K98 taken from a U boat off Iceland in 1941. The bayonet came with the belt, which has matt grey colour to buckle.
Could it have been a KM one and if so what do I need to look for. It came from the locker onboard the captured boat.

Here's one at a good price if you can stand the condition... http://cgi.ebay.com/MATCHING-K...?hash=item23062c8751He thinks it's Luft because of the frog markings but it's clearly marked with the North Sea marking on the crossguard and scab. Lance

http://cgi.ebay.com/WWII-GERMA...&hash=item5192b2cfeaJust thought I'd post the link to this recently listed Ostsee Navy marked and matching S84/98III. While it's not minty, it's not bad, and it's almost certainly original markings.
Here's to those who make what we collect worth collecting.
Bravo Troop, 1/7 CAV, 5th BCT, 1CD OIF II, Al-Rashid, Baghdad, Iraq GARRYOWEN!
