Greetings,
I have a bayonet I am trying to I.D.

http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q82/feldwebel_34/untitled1.jpg

Above are links to photos.
Here is the description:
Length-
Overall: 16 1/8" (41 cm)
Blade: 11 1/16" (28 cm)
Handle: 3 7/8" (10 cm)
Muzzle ring inside dia.: 5/8" (15 mm)

Has wood handgrips with grip screws. Grips appear to be varnished/stained.
Blade has dark bluing and is unsharpened.
Ricasso marked: Simson & Co, Suhl
The numeral '1161' stamped paralell on handle
The numeral '0' stamped on lower edge of blade near handle.
No markings on scabbard; has riveted spring assy and shoes signs of frog wear.
I have been told this is either a Portuguese M1904 or a bayonet for the Austrian MP 34.
Any help is appreciated.
Regards,
Eric Weidner

Eric,

I do not have one of these on hand but it looks like a Portuguese M1934 which fits the Steyr Solothurn submachine gun. Some people identify this as PM35.

Hope this helps.

Keith

Eric,

I believe Keith is correct from what I can see of your rather dark photos. The bayonet was made in Austria to accompany the Steyr machine gun.

Hello, i believe these bayonets were reworked by Portuguese, all are Simson Suhl marked and all are refurbished. my opinion is that they were made from the early 1904 contract.
Austrian MP34 were equiped with Mannlicher M95 bayonet.best regards,Andy
