This one is better in person than the pics show, just like Vintagetimenow mentioned in the discription when it was listed. I love the aged look on the fittings and the grip fit is perfect as mentioned. One thing that was left out is the screws are unturned and the pommel nut is untampered with. Indeed a keeper. Thanks John

Wagner, Not me i was busy going after this dagger and a NSKK from Thelakesidetradder also posted in the Sa/NSKK forum. Although i do wish i had a dagger to go with a leather covered scabbard. Heck either one would cost more than i could afford right now, after this buy and the NSKK dagger i'm broke.
Thanks guy's for the thumbs up.
Eric

Hi Eric, As the biding went higher, the seller said it was between me and a guy named Eric. I got it. But I was thinking maybe it was you. As you know, it's a small world in our community. This time it was another Eric. The dagger was not a "Christmas" or small "A" motto. Thanks. -wagner-

Good score Eric. I'm sure more than just a few of us were licking our lips at that one. I'm surprised it stayed on as long as is did.

Wagner, I'm that "other" Eric. I'm very curious how the deal turned out for you. Show pictures when you can.

Hi Rev, So your the right "Eric". Small world isn't it? You were beating me up pretty good there for awhile. I had to use my "closer" technique. I hate to use it, but it usually makes them run to the Post Office. It's in my hands already! Arrived today. I'll post some pix tomorrow. I got to run now, but I can tell you that I am pleased. Maybe, there is a way in the future, that as we get to know the membership better, we can let each other "have" a piece, without having the Big run ups that happen when two knowledgeable GDC members have a biding war at a private auction? I'll "lay back" on the next one, if I see your email. OK? Then you got to do the same on the following one. Deal? He offered it to me for $400.00. But, I live in California. By the time I got up, and could reply, you had already offered him $425. So, off to the races we went. He did say you were a fine gentleman and was sorry that he didn't have another one for you. He was a nice guy himself. -wagner-

No need for this to be a cut-throat endeavor. The thrill of the chase is reward enough.

GREAT dagger! Also have an NSKK by Malsch & Ambronn with pitch-black motto and nice patina. It's one of my favorites.

OK Rev. Nothing like a wild shoot-out, with no rules, at a private auction. -wagner-

It's a nice dagger Eric. I never saw any reason to take down a dagger like that..I'm not that curious to see the tang markings! If I didn't have another one in my collection, I would have kept her. I do have another Malsch and Ambronn to sell, though the condition is less, so is the price. This one seems to have the blacker burnishing you sometimes see on these. I don't think it's paint though...

That's an interesting question, maybe has to due with how the daggers were distributed from the factory to the various Gau districts. See the thread about Gau stampings by maker...has an interesting pie diagram. http://daggers.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/160093573/m/8740056454John

It's common for some makers to have most or all of their daggers stamped with a particular gau mark. For instance, all Haco daggers are stamped with "B" for Berlin. Only makes sense as Haco was a Berlin maker. Haenel is usually Sa and Kober is usually Th even though they were both Suhl manufacturers.
