Just wanted to alert the fellow sword collectors that there is a potentially fascinating thread in the Restoration and Maintenance Forum on fixing sword grip wire. Since most of the sword people check this forum, I thought I would plug it here.

Thanks for bringing this up. I've used this technique several times and it works great. Just be sure to use the correct color and type of wire. It works for daggers to!
I had posted that some time ago. If anyone is interested in more step by step instrcution, feel free to contact me. I've re-worked probably 6 or 7 saber grips and have become quite good with the technique. There are a few little secrets to really get the job done well that I've discovered with time.

I want to add some clarification regarding these re-work instructions. The directions are applicable for a dovehead style army saber only. These do not apply to lionhead sabers due to the pommel assembly/backstrap removal.
Iyou master the technique on a dovehead, the same principle applies on a lionhead. Just be sure you are comfortable with peening meathods. Due to the very nature of lionhead saber construction, the disassembly/reassembly process is considerably more difficult. I will add directions in the future.
If anyone has novice, step by step for instruction for lionheads, please add it. I am posting this due to some emails I had received.
