A question for Houston and anyone one else with an opinion please. These photos are from both ends of a 12 inch blade. My question is, does it appear in any way that the engraving has been alternated to accommodate the blade length (the reverse is the same)? As the hilt is clearly from a regulation size Masonic sword Im wondering if the blade was specifically made as a short version (there is no scabbard), or if there is evidence to believe a sword was simple cut down.
Thanks. Andy

Before I get put in the corner with a dunce cap by Houston, I should have asked about etching, vice engraving.

Andy--IMO the etching could have been short, although unusual I would say, even on a long sword so it could be a cut down but also could have been made that way. A close examination of the blade tip might be more revealing.

Thanks Houston,
These may or may not be clear enough to be conclusive.

Noteworthy perhaps is that the personalization is perfectly centered on both sides.

Is this a nickel plated blade? Looks that way. Take a look at the blade edges along the blade and then at the point. If the plating is intact especially at the point area then it was made that way for sure. If just the plating is missing at the point area-- then--probable re-point.

Houston,
Good idea. Checking it out under several loops, there is no desernable lose of plating in any area, nor signs or filing or a misshapen point. Like to think it was made this way, especially since the pattern fits to a T and is unlike my other examples, but who knows. Thanks again.
