Well, the fine gentlemen who work for Canada Customs finally released my package after they spent some time investigating it and looking for clues, but they were left clueless (I digress).

The package contained 3 Pack etched bayonets which I will share with you over the next couple of days.

The three etches are:

1) an unusual double etched Neutral No 11 obverse and Pioniere Oval reverse on a non Pack hilt Pioniere style bayonet. I am in discussions with a couple of you about this and will post this one last after all our discussions are over.

2) a large Panzer single etch No 5.

3) and a short Oval C31 single etch, which I am posting right now. I have two of these now and they are slightly different from each other.

The obverse of the short single etch C31 Oval:

The TM:

Note that many Ovals have the other large Siegfried Waffen TM, but my two C31s don't, they have this one.

Now, I have a long version of this on a double etched blade (I showed this on a previous thread... it is the Willi Langenberg presentation piece) and it has a slightly different airplane than the above version.

Notice that there is no 'C31' on the fuselage:

Here are the two side by side for comparison.

Interesting, isn't it?

The reverse etch is interesting, it is simply and only the Pack Pioniere Oval etch.

Very different and very very nice.

And the Pioniere Oval.

Denny, I was glad to be able to show you and Terry some of these items.

And, I really appreciated the help and advice that Wayne, DD and Ron gave me at the show (and many times outside of the show).

By the way, these three Pack etches came to me from Paul at Lakesidetrader, another fine Canadian type guy, eh.

Not quite SOS finds, but I would like to show you my latest Pack etched arrival. It is the Rerik Flak Artillery School etch that is shown on pages 66-67 of Wayne's great book, German Etched Dress Bayonets.

John,

Condition aside, this is a rare pattern & a very nice addition to your Pack horde. I mean, there can't have been very many of them made so it seems to be one of those situations where rarity trumps condition. Great looking detail to those 88's!

Hello John,
I'm not sure your rerik bayonet?
maybe pack may have made 2 versions of it?
See the old thread here!

Rare and wonderful bayos John!

JL:

I had this bayo checked out by a couple of people who know this etch and they gave me thumbs up on it before I bought it. Plus it comes from someone who knows his stuff.

It could be my picture taking that is to blame for some of the differences. I, at first, was concerned that the letter widths were not the same as what was pictured in Wayne's book.

Hello John,
First, I say you have a fantastic collection, I am envious.
I do not say it is a copy but it is not the same etch as in Wayens book.motivet are etched into the blade and not on the subject, see photos and read text in Wayens book.
Perhaps they've made 2 different versions!?
I have one similar to that in wayens book, got it from an old boy in Wustrow. It surprised me that within about 1-2 years I have seen the virson 5-6 times? and I have collected for over 30 years and have never seen them before now?
Perhaps Wayen has an opinion here?

Best,Jack

JL:

I think that what you are referring to as well is that this etch has a bottom border, whereas the one in the book does not.

Let's see what, if anything, Wayne says.
