Does anyone have any solid evidence that the 1st listing of an honor ring receipient precedes the date on the ring.Example The 1936 SS DAL list Schmidt as haveing a ring.Schmidt ring is dated 4/20/37 because of the time for the request to go thru the channel.Meier is listed for the 1st time in 1938 SS DAL and his ring date id 20/4/39.Make sense? Thanks

I can't recall anything 'solid'.. But it is usually as you say.
I'd say there are a few things that factor in on this all,,when it was first sent in, approval, when Gahr gets the order, the printing up of the actual list..

Gaspare,Any theory on why there are no 1935 dated rings, yet the 1935 SS DAL is full of them.

Wish I knew why Zorro!
Maybe a 'getting together year' The 1933 and a few 1934s were roman numeral rings. For years there were many collectors that believed a 1933 ring didn't exist! Then in 1934 we see some rings standard dates and some roman numeral,,why?
Then no 1935s..Maybe the first 2 years were a trial [?]. By 1936 it was to be a permanent ongoing thing and standardized for its term and they started putting them out there again..All pulling out of the air,,its another of the rings mysteries we might never know!

Hello,

an interesting subject, btw recently discussed on WAF :

http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/showthread.php?t=268423

I understand so many reasons may explain off standard situations, but which is the standard ?

Regards

Ric

Ric, I don't think there is a standard.. Hate to say it but thats just another attempt by John to try and discredit someone.. It all proves nothing more than we already know..
All thats known is that there is a order. The order is:
You get put in for getting the ring..It gets approved,,notices go to the paper for the printing of that years list and another to Gahr with the ring size and name to be engraved. Thats it! Does the ring often have a date a year before the list ,,yes.. Could a SS man have a ring dated before the listing date? yes,possible....

We do also know there are men that were supposed to receive a ring in 1935 [as we have seen ring documents dated 1935]. For whatever the reason none were made and they got their rings in 1936 with a 36 date on it.

Maybe one day something will turn up as far as what the regulation is supposed to be,but until that time it remains sometimes very hard to say exactly [when you have multiple names, close dates]what ring goes to what man...

Wrong Gaspare! If someone makes a claim they need to back it up with proof. We have seen none after being challenged. Then we have people trying to match rings to people with common names like Meier and Schmidt along with a lot of wishful thinking.

Remember that rings could be withdrawn for disciplinary reasons. So......

Guy gets ring in 1936
Gets it withdrawn in 1939
Gets it back in 1942 after the 3 years

1937 DAL says he has the ring
1940 says he doesn't
1944 says he does.

John, wrong? really? you are refering to Don on the WAF topic..Remember one thing. Don only authenticates rings. He, or usually its the customer pays someone to do the research in the archives..Don only has a few lists and he is NOT the researcher of the rings sent to him 99% of the time.
Then its just who matces up the best. Most of the time its wrong anyway as you mention many with common names, close dates.. You want to challange someone? go challange the researcher..
Or check out Robins post..he's correct, thats possible. Theres other possibilities too...

The ring in question is an original HR. Unless its a famous SS personality thats all that matters...........
