I am sure it has nothing to do with 3rd Reich Militaria.

Maybe a box of Fruit from Florida

The sign of an advanced collector: Able to maintain composure long enough to photograph the box before opening it.

Well, it must be time to see what's inside the box... Big Grin
Posted By: Oregon Re: ??? - 03/11/2006 12:06 AM
Waffen SS M-35dd, ET64, 1939-dated reinforced aluminum linerband, leather is named to 'Braun', 1938-dated chinstrap, domestamp is far too faint to read, but, if you click your heels together and squint 'just right' a date can almost be seen. Big Grin The runic decal is the very same one as shown in Baer, page 189.

I have known of this gorgeous helmet for some time and now happily own it. Smile

Hope you enjoy the eye candy.

Rob...I dont understand it either...on May 15th of 1967 some guy in the Rep. of Viet Nam did not like me and made a mess of my "chicken plate"...daah...it was a perfectly olive chicken plate until he done that...so now I use it as my atavar...since it did save my life that day...it hangs in my library...since all the doorgunner, crewchiefs, pilots and co-pilots of the 176th assault Helicopter Company signed it for me...your SteinMeister

See? I told you guys that you would be awe-struck. Magnificent helmet, Cody. And in that pristine condition it is a virtually one-of-a-kind example.

Cheers,
Posted By: Oregon Re: ??? - 03/11/2006 05:43 PM
Hey guys,

Thanks for all the kind words. I feel very fortunate to have acquired this magnificent example of Waffen SS kit. After purchase negotiations began, Kelly pointed out the Baer association. That bit of frosting certainly made the acquisition sweeter.

Thanks again,
Cody

Just got off the phone with a collector-friend 'up here' in Oregon. As it turns out, this helmet was acquired by an associate of my friend's from a vet in Beaverton, OR on a bright, warm Sunday in 1984. Earlier, I had sent images of the helm to this friend, whereby, he immediately recognized the helmet from the tiny kachunka in the upper-left corner of the runic shield. "That's it!" Eek

J. Goodman, who acquired the helmet from the vet, was told of if by another who just didn't have time to go see the thing. Confused Too bad. Frown Goodman kept it long enough to receive credit in the Baer book then sold it to the person from who I received it. Small world we helmet collectors inhabit.

Curiously, the helmet is back home in Oregon. Smile

Hello Cody,....I am so envious, It's just superb, I didn't think they came as good as that.....I bet it didn't come from Manions!!!....I suppose the obvious next question must be, have any black M35 DDs in a similar condition survived? Many thanks.
