Hi. Can anyone help me with this medal? Is it good or not?
Sorry about the bad pictures. Tried to get the closeups with a handheld lens in front of the camera lens... Must invest in a new camera for closeups.

Welcome to the forum! I don't have a great background with this medal but from what I can see it looks ok to me, lets see what others have to say for a better answer. Thanks for showing it here. Do you have any other medals?
Fritziii
Hmmmmm I can't see anything????? All that comes up for me is: "Pic 2Pic 3Pic 4Pic 5Pic 5Pic 6" Anyone have something else? ~ Ian
i like it,,,seems to be a Zimmerman firm production if i rememeber it right,,still looks good from all angles,,,
OK now this is starting to worry me . . . I don't get any pictures only the hyper text; "Pic 2Pic 3Pic 4Pic 5Pic 5Pic 6" any suggestions???? ~ Ian
Hi. fritziii. Thanks for your reply.Yes I have some other medals too. Will post them later.
This one is from a friend. He has a collection with some good and some bad medals he want to sell. Will post the other medals and uniforms soon.
This is the first GKiG I have seen, except for pictures. Can anyone tell me why oter GKiGs look like they have a white background to the swastica? Is it frosted or matt silver?
Or am I totally wrong? I suspect this one have a shiny silver disc, and not a matt/frosted one. Is it ok to polish to find out? I never do anything to my medals, but what do you do when not sure?
Please, can anyone tell me???
I am not an expert either, however it conforms to the example shown in "The Iron Cross of 1939" by Gordon Williamson
ALTHOUGH this looks nice there are some red flags which cause me some concerns and I feel this may be a post war GODET. First on the front the excess red border and is the rear plate magnetic ?. On the reverse the 20 appears double struck which is not on , the rivets are sloppy and the catch plate does not seem correct. I submit two pics of a known 20 for comparrison draw your own conclusions.
second example
Thanks. I will test the rear plate. Is it supposed to be magnetic or not? Sorry about all the questions, but I am new to this medal.
Anders
the plate behind the swas on these must be magnetic .
PAUL
Thanks for all the help, everyone.
Will test it as soon i get my hands on it. It is an collection of a friend of mine.
It is none of my business but this collection is a death trap and this dkig is a 2,000 dollar medal and with red flags one would wonder why you are pursuing anything in it with your basic knowledge. You have not shown anything yet which is correct and know one here wishes you a bad experience but that is what you are heading into IMO
PAUL
I am doing this for a friend. He got it from is grandfather, and have no interest in this so he want to sell it. But he wanted to know if it was any good before he sold it. The medals I have put on this forum are the ones I wast sure about. Thats why I ask so many questions. I am not an expert on medals, but have some knowledge of medals.I collect mainly weapons and daggers of ww2.
Thank you all for all the help.
Anders
Hi!
The cross looks fine from what I can see, if you don't want it let me know.

NO PROBLEM post all you want,I have found several more DKIGs ALL with the same catch plate as the true example I have posted and have grave doubt about the double struck maker number. I would like to see this posted over on the WH forum where it would get more opinions.
PAUL
Thank you for all your help Paul.
Sorry about another question, but what is the WH forum? If you get me directions, and I will post it there.
Anders
Thank you Bob, but its not up to me. But I will tell my friend.

FROM THESE PHOTOS, the medal appears to be good. HOWEVER, someone has polished the area behind the swastika and has really ruined it. When these discolor (and they do easily) any attempt to polish them led to a disaster. It should be a frosted silver and is very thin and when polished, is destroyed.
The double strike on the 20 (Zimmermann) TM is common. You see this quite often, so this doesn't bother me.
The reverse, however, also looks to have been over polished.

DOES the none typical catch not bother you Ron ?

I agree with Ron, I never knew about the double stamped "2" but am glad to learn this. The catch is fine just bent out of shape. Why people have to play, clean and modify these I have no idea but it does happen. This cross is 110% oriignal
