Hello

I know very little about these but atleast the HJ and the DE look good to me. Is the NSDAP late war or fake? The eagle pin looks too soft on details to be good. Thanks in advance!

Hi Juergen,

I'm afraid to say I don't like any of them. The DE badge is a well-known fake - anything with M1/129 is bad.

The HJ pin has a poor back and I think I see a "BM" code prefix under the pin, which is also a fantasy seen on a lot of HJ stuff.

As you say the eagle looks like a naval eagle, but the details are too soft and most I've seen are hollow-backed.

The party pin stickpin looks to me to be a fake as well - late war was zinc and not this kind of metal, and if late war would be RZM marked and a standard safety pin back. Stickpins were mostly pre-1935, and then the quality was good.

Thanks for the information! I didn't know that they made fakes this good from cheap pins already before -90s (the pins are bought in the end of -80s).

Stephen,
What's behind the conclusion "anything with M1/129 is bad."
Please light that dark spot for me.

M1/129 was an issued RZM number, but no one has ever been able to produce a genuine badge with a M1/129 RZM mark. They appear on a large variety of fakes of varying qualities - it seems to be a favourite mark. They are mostly NSDAP membership pins and the sympathizer badges - like this one and the one shown below.

There are several threads about the M1/129 mark. Stay away.

Juergen - these badges and many more like them were sold in volume in the 1970s and before. Now some are more than 40 years old.

Here's a better shot of a fake using this M1/129 mark on another DE badge with the tell-tale fake pinplate.

This one is actually a copy of a copy of a bad back. These ones came out in the mid- to early-1990s.

In the case of the Deutschland Erwache badges, they are conveniently dated on the front as "1933" when the RZM didn't start marking badges until the beginning of 1935. In fact, M1/129 was likely issued in 1938 as an RZM license, as it is the last number before the new Austrian licenses came out following the annexation - way too late for this badge.

Still, Seiler & Co (M1/129) never seems to have used its M1/129 license in any period badges. It may be they merged, went out of business or turned to other things before they produced any RZM items.

Stephen is 100% correct, and he's said it for years. I've done my own research on the M1/129's for the last few years and could have saved myself alot of time by listening to Stephen. Wish I had.

Hi Erick,

They all look like good ones to me. Proper markings and fronts. Two nice pre-RZM badges in there (Hoffstatter HJ and unmarked party badge).

The painted zinc versions were introduced in 1944 due to shortages (and bombs falling).

The blue and yellow badges are fake / fantasy badges - never existed. The only real HJ badges are red and white.

I can't tell from the photo, but if there is an "Otto Hoffmann" maker in there, they are pure fakes as well - there was no such maker and it appears on a variety of fake badges.

# 2 looks fine (cap badge), and as long as #4 isn't the infamous Otto Hoffmann, it looks OK too.

There are a few threads about the fake multi-coloured HJ badges and "Otto Hoffmann" mark.
