Need help with SS name and rank - 10/04/2009 05:44 PM
Hello to this Forum,
I have recently purchased an SS helmet which has a name penned on the leather liner. It is difficult to read, but appears to be a rank abbreviation followed by a last name. To me the rank appears to be "O.G. Fur" or else just "G. Fur". The name looks like "Rotnelz" or Rotnelt" or "Retnelz" or something similar.
Can anyone familiar with german script and rank abbreviations please help. Also, a knowledge of german names and SS members.
Here are photos. The first is what looks like the rank, "G. Fur" with an "R" to the right which is the first letter of the name. The rest are the guy's name, which starts with the capital "R".
Thanks.
Harvey
