I have recently obtained a Rohm dagger and I wish to know more about what I own. I have been guaranteed that this is the genuine article and I'd like to know what you all think.... Look forward to hearing from you

Welcome Raymond.
It would be best for you to post some pictures so the members can see what you've got.
Wait a minute, It's coming into focus in my crystal ball.

Can't really be sure since only a little bit of the inscription fits in the little window of my "Magic Eight Ball."

Incorrect plated fittings on both scabbard and dagger is incorrect for this period
piece. Not a good sign!
Gailen David
Also blade has been buffed with new graining showing. I really don't even want to cast an opinion on the inscription.
Gailen David
SS runes in a brown handle. Looks like an SA scabbard (brown) but not sure. I want it!
Gailen
This all adds up to "REFUND TIME!"
GAILEN dAVID
I REALLY FEEL SORRY TELLING YOU THIS ABOUT YOUR DAGGER. MIND TELLING US WHAT YOU PAID FOR IT?
Gailen David
In closing, may I add, that no knowledgeable dealer would have sold you this as original. I don't care whose toes I step on! It just makes me mad.
Gailen David
Honestly
Its not all paid yet but he was asking US$ 4500.00
Raymond that alone is a big red flag!
Hi
For Me thats a new saying
what does that mean I allways want to learn somthing new
Raymond
I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW ANYONE THINKS THEY ARE GOING TO BUY A REAL SS FULL ROHM FOR $4500. WONDER WHAT WOULD HAPPEN TO SOME OF THESE GUYS IF WE WERE NOT AROUND?????????????????? NO ONE BUYS REFERENCE BOOKS AND LEARNS, IT'S JUST SHOW AND TELL.
GAILEN DAVID
The saying means the price was to good to be true.
Here is how I see things going....I'm going to buy something that I know nothing about and I don't have time to read or am I interested in learning about what I am going to buy before hand. I know! I'll just show it to the experts and let them bail me out. That's the easy thing to do! And you know what, it dosen't cost a cent! What a deal.
Sure wish I'd have had that luxury 40 years ago.
Gailen David
Hi Gailen
My friend got Me a book about dagger but its all in German, which book you suggest I can buy for future help.
Thanks Gailen
Regards
raymond
Buy a copy of "Reproduction? Recognition!" by Frederick Stevens and a copy of Thomas Johnson "Collecting the Edged Weapons of the Third Reich Vol.I" to start out. Ones cheap and one isn't. Both are in English.
Gailen David
Thanks Gailen
I go to ebay and see if there is any,if not I go to our local book imports and order from him,
I thank you for all your great help
regards
Raymond
Raymond,
Click on this link:
http://www.wwiidaggers.com/REFTTW.htmThe fourth book down - EXPLORING THE DRESS DAGGERS AND SWORDS OF THE GERMAN SS - is what you need as well.
Call (856)866-8733 in the morning after 10:30 and buy it. That's my best advice.
Dave
Funny thing is I use my book all the time. I could not stay in business without it and I've owned a few SS's over the years. Amazes me how a new collector could wade into this without one!
"an ounce of prevention..."
Of course books are importend, but more for the basics. There is way much more knowledge needed when you want to spend some ks and feel happy and safe after an expensive purchase.
