Has anyone dealt or purchased from Mitchels Mausers in So. Cal? They advertise in the NRA magazines. I was thinking of purchasing an 98. They categorize them as "collectors" grade, and retail it at $399. Wafampt maked, matching seriel numbers and so on. Would this be considered a fair price for one of these? Im a modern firearms guy so this is a new area to me.

Several of my friends have purchased Mitchells Mausers, the Yugo model. The WWI 98I mausers, I believe, are all refinished and reconditioned rifles, which in my opinion, would definately be a factor in deterimining their value to a collector. The Yugos have all been solid rifles in excellent to mint condition, have not seen the 98K rifles, but I assume since they are refinisthed they are like new. You will obviously want some input from people who have first hand experience with the 98K rifles, Good Luck, Joe S

I have purchased four of the Yugo version "T" mentions above. My dealings with them were very, very good and I got ALL the stuff you need without having to accumulate pieces from 20 gun shows.

I think they are OK to deal with and gave me a discount on the four rifles which they did not have to do and I did not ask for.

The recoil of the rifle is something I did not expect...very tough!

I was satisfied and pleased with that dealing with them as a Company.

before i would shell out 399 for a rifle, i would ask if they are in original condition, numbers match on bolt and rifle and if they have been reconditioned. if original and match decent price. if not the value goes down dramatically.because to me a reconditioned rifle is the same as a reconditioned helmet, not the same as an original. if not original i wouldsay about 200 no more than 250. just my opinion.

Mark..oh yeah..8mm mauser ranks right up there with 7.62 NATO, which i had the misfortune to train with, in the Belgian FN-C1-A1 in the Canadian armed forces..

7.92 (8MM..) is a calibre that will put you down hard no matter where it hits...

I have several (all matching) Vet acquired K98s, I would probably let one go if interested..

I assume the Wedgepig's criteria offered in his post above relates to the Yugo 98's and not German 98k or Gew 98s also mentioned in the other posts.

I German Rifle (k98 or G98) that is all matched and in good orginal finish will easily sell for a base price of $700-800 and can sometimes bring even twice that....and that $1500 price range is not for the special or exotic variations (like SS marked, sniper or experimental stocks etc. those can bring 10 to 15 k....depending.

yep thats what i meant.

Vet acquired K98s are the way to go for a genuine rifle.
Mitchells are all refinished units. Not bad for display or range time, but not so great for collectors.
Another alternative is a Russian capture. Inexpensive, numbers DO NOT match, refinished.
Good shooters though. Nice for display.

Mitchell's Mauser are selling overpriced refinished rifles. You can buy the same rifles from other distributors for a good bit less money.

Timboo is right, they are overpriced, but they will work with you, I was about to buy one from them, then someone offered me one in the same condition as their "collector grade premium k98's" which there angle for those is that they guarantee at least 12 matching serial numbers, for alot less. They are currently offering death head ss k98's for $6000.00
now will someone please tell me where I can find one of those cheaper???

The BBB has given Mitchells poor marks. Just take a look at their rifles, shined and polished bolts (ever see one like that on a real K98?), matched numbers (that have been matched by them, and pimp shined stocks. If they are going through that much fakery it makes me very leary of buying anything from them. I have purchased sporterized K98's, put them back into original military stocks, and have had a much more "real" K98 than what Mitchells sells. I should point out that I bought mine for shooting and not collecting. I remain well pleased as I got all the accessories with each rifle when I bought mine. I know what I bought and why I bought them. When I bought mine they were only $279.00 each with everything included. A great deal at the time..now they are more and you don't get all the stuff they originally put in the deal.

At the time they were selling M48's for almost $300, I ordered the same rifle with same accessories from a standard distributor for $79.99.
