Firstly thanks to everyone who gave me the confidence to buy this. It has been really tricky buying anything since I got stung on that full Rohm. I find it difficult to trust anyone now (especially people I have never met).
I can say after I took one quick look at this today that I immidiately fell in love with it. I would say it is the best dagger I have ever owned and has taken some of the pain away from collecting that I previously experienced.
I was expecting the blade to be a bit rough but I have just gently wiped the crap off and its nearly perfect, there is a few spots on it from old fingerprints but it is really shiny with a lovey cross grain
Here is a close up of the cross grain, it is really fine like early SS daggers. Also most of the burnishing is still on the dedication. The few spots on it might clean out but im just going to oil it and leave the blade rather than trying to clean it up.
Lovely look and patina to it all
Almost 100% of the burnishing remains on the chain and the centre ramp
None of the screws have ever been turned, all the paint is original and has a lovely crazed look and there are no cracks or chips in the handle.
When I sent the money I really never thought it would be delivered im so amazed really made my day now!
And the really great thing Is that the original German owner is still alive he moved to the US in the 60s and is sending me a whole load of information covering his (its) history in the next few weeks.
Great buy Mongo. I hope that it restores your confidence in collecting.
Thats a dagger I'd be proud to have.
What a plus to be in contact with the original owner and hear about his history first hand.
Glad it went well for you and thanks for showing it.
Very Nice! The blade is even better than I thought! ... for 6K..A Deal!

I love the patina on this!
It speaks volumes, so to say!!!
Congratulations
Cheers,
As stated by Serge, it is indeed much better than I thought.
A great addition to your collection.
Congrats, wonderful specimen.
An extraordinary dagger and excellent buy. The forthcoming background information will add greatly to its collectibility and make it even more special. Congratulations!
congrats with the new dagger, looks great
This piece airs mysticism. Whatever you do in life.... Don't ever clean it.
Wonderful dagger.
Kind regards,
Davey
Never gonna be cleaned, dont worry about that. I think it is a Herder looking at the style of the blade dedication, shape of the handle, fine cross grain and runes. But thats just looking in Wittmanns book.
Whatever it is im pleased with it, thanks!
You should be pleased you done well with that buy.
Sean
Well done Mongo, I think you can sleep easy at night with this one.
Great acquisition and congratulations. But I would implore you NOT to oil the blade! Oil can ruin a blade over time!
Congratulations on a beautiful looking dagger! And what a bonus to be getting first hand details from the original owner - doesn't get much better than that!
Regards
Russell
REALLY A WONDERFUL PIECE.A KEEPER.PAUL
Just saw this beauty! Congrats!
Got to love the early M36 daggers! IMO they are the best. Nice one!
Mongo, if you try to clean out thse spots you'll remove the crossgrain in that area, just from the pics alone you can see they are too deep to come off with a light clean.
This goe's for any new blade anyone might aquire, you need to neutralise any remaining finger acid or any other corrosive element that might be lingering there, then do nothing apart from protect it from moisture, best way is to leave it in the scabbard, or if you intend to display always have a pack of those moisture absorbing crystals nearby the piece.
Very nice dagger, was it or $.
Nolan
I have not cleaned it! decided against doing anything like that. How do you Neutralise any remaing finger acid?
It was $6,000 about 3300 so not much more than a decent 33 these days.
Super Dagger at a super price, Mongo check your PM.
Nolan
