Hi all,

Lost my dad last year and currently sorting through his attic. Found the attached dagger. I know very little about it and would love to know more. If anyone can help me I’d be very grateful.

Not sure where he picked it up, but he served with the Royal Engineers from DDay eventually ending up in Hamburg.

Many thanks!

Sorry to hear about your Father, Peter.

His dagger is an SA dagger. An early production one with the maker's name and logo. All the pieces are there an in good shape. Value here would be $800 - $1000. Don't clean it or shine it up as you could reduce the value.

No doubt your father found this somewhere in Germany.

And, Welcome to GDC.

Thanks Dave!

Polishing cloths put away and dagger returned to its box. It’s not seen the light of day in at least 50 years, so it won’t mind.

As it is of no sentimental value to me (I didn’t know it existed until yesterday) I’m more than happy to sell it if it’ll give someone else pleasure. Is there a best place to do this? Sorry for the basic questions, I literally know nothing other than what Google says.

Thanks again,

Peter

Peter,

Think twice before selling. Have you children or grandchildren who would value it ?

If you want to sell it, you could do so here. Alternately you can try selling it to a dealer.

Meanwhile, why don't you post a lot more pictures here. Back of the scabbard and blade, closeups of everything, etc.

Someone might make you an offer wink
