Great find Gerd!! Hard to Find any SS dagger anymore with decent crossgrain. The motto and maker logo is nice and dark. There was an old commercial on TV many years ago that said of the Swedish Bikini team,, "It doesnt get any better than that"!! Its a tough choice but I will take the Boker grin Congrats Larry

Hi Gerd:

Congrats on your find! I have seen just a few SS daggers with names carved on the handle. It looks like his sturm/ standarte might be next to his name as well. There is only one "Gustav Faust" in the Master Index of SS Names in our National Archives. It gives the birthdate of 18 February 1904 which may be a typo (or he shaved a few years off his age at some point). The Index indicates that he has a Race & Settlement (Rasse-und Seidlungs) File in the Archives which can be invaluable when researching a SS member. As I have mentioned on here before, all SS men and their fiances were required to go through an application process to get permission to marry. The typical size is about 65 pages and can be most useful since they were supposed to contain a personal questionnaire (Fragebogen), and brief auto-biography (Lebenslauf), and three photos (bust, profile, full length) for each applicant along with family trees and health records. After the war, there was a big sorting of captured SS documents and additional records were also sometimes added to these files- especially in the case of SS enlisted & NCOs. These sometimes include personal service record cards (stammkartes), soldbuchs, and wehrpasses. It can be feast or famine with these files since sometimes all of the required records were not completed, but sometimes an amazing amount can be learned about an individual. Contact me for more information.

Enjoy!

Hi Gerd:

I was able to look into Gustav Faust's Race & Settlement File. To my surprise, it was incomplete with only two documents. He held the rank of SS-Oberscharfhrer at the time of his 1934 application and was in Sturm 11/ 5. SS-Standarte. He must have had an SS membership number assigned but it was not given in this file.

Enjoy!

Since you had his birth date, I looked in the NSDAP membership files to see if he was a member and, if so, are any of his file cards present (this not always the case). Having the date of birth is very important in these records if you don't have the NSDAP membership number. You wouldn't believe how often you find people with the same first and last names as members of the NSDAP. I should also point out that SS membership numbers were not recorded in these files. Had some luck this time! One of his NSDAP file cards was there and it still had his photo (only about 40% of them are still attached) and he was in uniform (not always the case). Now you can put a face with your Bker! Or with a nod to Lady Gaga....another Ba..Ba..Ba..Bker Face!

Enjoy!
