What's your opinion on this one? I'm bit sceptic about few features (like motto positioned to high), but I'd like to know what members of GDC have to say. Feel free to wave the red flags (but not the commie ones)
p.s. Blade is unmarked. The runic grip insert seems to be 100% O.K., so didn't posted it.

Based on the limited photos, it looks okay. Is "DRGM" stamped inside the opening to the chain "cloverleaf?" I wouldn't be too concerned about the positioning of the motto. Sometimes, they are far from perfectly spaced and this one does not appear to be that far off of center.

Last but not least... And the DRGM is on its place.

The chain and connectors look ok for a type 1 but the center fitting has only one screw. If it is a painted scabbard that is ok but that is very rare for a type 1 chain. The motto burnish looks too good for the rest of the blade and the fit into the lower crossguard looks not the greatest. Still it might be ok but a hands on inspection would be needed for me to be serious about it. JR could probably feel the vibes over the internet connection and be able to tell you more about it (it would have to be a high speed line though).

I'm with Robin, and like the dagger from the photos that I see of it. Most of the time you do see anodized scabbard using the 2 screw method of securing the center band and painted scabbards using the 1 screw system. And most of the time seeing the Type I chain with the 2 screw method, but really while looking at this feature, it usually doesn't affect determining whether the piece is of the 3rd Reich period or not. As far as the etch being high on the blade, you're going to see this some times. And sometimes you're going to even see the motto run from high to low across the center line of the blade.

The scabbard is a painted one, but as the current owner says, most of the paint has disappeared.

Lower the center scabbard band and see what remains under it.If the paint remains in the shape of the scabbard band it has always been a M 1936.Be careful not to scratch it.Yes,the dagger looks salty and the blade is pepperd but I like it

I've seen many a dagger honest dagger like this. The blade I believe is right and original to the dagger. Just not properly stored for many years. The peppering at the base of blade is indicative of this, at least to me. I would not be removing ANY scabbard bands on a untouched dagger. A nice strait type 1 - 36 SS. -wagner-
