Looking through hundreds of photos I have come to the conclusion that it is very difficult to find any photos of spec patches in wear. So I thought I would start this thread to see what pictures the collecting comunity has that displays spec patches and what original spec patches can be shared here. I will start off with a couple of very rare photos of females wearing spec patches. The first one is taken from the book "THIRD REICH CLOTH INSIGNIA" BY BRIAN L DAVIES AND IAN WESTWELL PAGE 168.

It would be interesting to know if anyone has come across any of the grey on police green spec patches for females and if anyone has any in there collection.

These are the only spec patches that I have, the reiter is a worn one as is the drivers, the signals is a nice minty one. Of note the reiter is now being heavily faked and is very difficult to spot so be aware.

Dear Gary,

I remember Patrick sold an early woman's white eagle and signals patch here on the forum so some member out there has one.

I have never run across another. I know it is a bit off topic but here are my spec. patches. I have no clue what that orange one is all about! I bought it thinking it was an elusive gendarmerie patch, but the background is dark green, not quite army, but not Justiz. Maybe WW1, I don't know.

Regards,
Bill Unland

A couple more. The added silver cord on the first is rather unusual, but totally original to the piece. it is also larger than the others. Perhaps a warrent officer (Meister) rank.

Well,

I would echo that interest in civil police has certainly waned. It has been VERY quiet of late.

I usually don't follow the police posts..BUT...I do have a veteran friend who was at the Battle of the Bulge and he does have a couple of these patches in that distinctive green color. I will visit him and take a couple of pictures to try to help revive this for you guys.

Gary, Bill, Dave and all;

There is certainly not a lack of interest in polizei information. We are all staggered by the breadth and depth of the advanced collections.

In the average collectors group, there is little known about the spec patches. How many different patches are there, and where can we find out about them?

We are all waiting for your book, Gary.

Dear Virgil,

To my knowledge there are only five badges. The silver bullion rider's badge was used by all of the different branches.

The other four badges, driver, signals, medical, ferrier were in theory made in all of the other colors, green, orange, carmine, red, etc to fit the wearers baranch of service.

To be honest most seen are SchuPo green. George has a Gemeinden tunic with a carmine driver's badge, and I think Gary has a fireman's driver's in carmine pink. To be honest I have never seen these in other colors, but they SHOULD have existed.

Bill Unland

For whatever reasons, these just do not seem to show up in 'For Sale' Sites!

You Guys are doing great in Educating us on this rare area of Polizei Collectin! Txs, Dave/dblmed

Dave I absolutely adore that Gempo jacket.
Bill I forgot about those fire badges, the only problem with these is they were carried over to post war fireman so it is difficult to know if they are original or not, I just dont know the regs for these.

I don't think that I have a single tunic with an originally attached specialty patch. I do have loose patches though.

Here are some driver patches.

Gary,

The two fire patches you posted were used to designate district leaders. A similar badge was worn post war but if memory serves me right only one of the two was used.

Thanks to Gary8 for starting this interesting thread: thought provoking and what a Forum like this can be so good at.

I'd be sorry if interest in the Police is waning: it's such an interesting subject, that such a decline would be a real shame.

My impression is that the opposite is in fact the case, at least when it comes to the publication of books on the subject. In English we have Tony Munoz's two volumes on "Hitler's Green Army", which contain a lot of interesting information (and some great photographs). And the Nix/Jerome "The Uniformed Police Forces of the Third Reich" (great text, but damaged by poor proof-reading and photo quality). And I'd also like to think that my own series with Jack Angolia for Roger Bender is helping to unravel what is quite a complex subject: we're nearing completion of Volume 2 now.

But Gary8's right when it comes to lack of feedback: despite our calls for help, very little was received following publication of Volume 1.

Interest in the Police, especially their shameful activities in the Eastern Occupied Territories, is also on the increase. I'd cite as a good example Wolfgang Curilla's "Die deutsche Ordnungspolizei und der Holocaust im Baltikum und in Weissrussland 1941-1944". 944 pages with amazing indices! Not a photo in sight but what great information!

May interest in the German Police (and in particular their uniforms) increase and answer some of those outstanding questions!

Dear George,

WOW a Wasserschutzpolizei specialty patch! That's the first one I have ever seen thanks.

Has anyone ever seen the ellusive orange, for any of the specialties?

I certainly appreciate the opportunity to view all these different spec. patches. I do not own any police related to contribute nor do I recall running across any at shows or from vet. sources. Must be somewhat rare?

I wish to thank you all for the time and effort it takes to scan and resize and post these remarkable items.

Gary, that is another fine picture you found!!! Thanks for sharing!!!

You might want to consider using some sort of copyright on your pictures before some inconsiderate copies it adds it to his website without first asking permission! It horrible to say, but it does happen.

I know who you mean. I have already told one inconsiderate that if I find any of my photos on his web site I will take him to court and sue, which I will do without any hesitation.

(Gary, I had to edit a little so not to be mistakenly directed at any particular individual.)

OK Dave I understand, the individual knows, how many of us would do the same thing.

Here is a spec patch that is on a period jacket, I forgot who the individual is, he is a prominent collector on most of the sites, sorry for forgetting your name.
