Judas,
It very much depends on whether its ASS or WSS you have in mind. Also perhaps the rarity/value of any insignia etc that may be on the item. And its condition of course plays a big part as always,,,,,,, Stephen Smile

Dear Friend, I think that price is insane. I paid 2,000 apiece for mine, one of which is from Koeln and a recycle coat of somewhat older origin, actually; and a fully RZMed VAed &c. one, which I originally owned in the 1970s. I cannot see such a textile being worth 10,000 dollars, in fact. Jarvis sold one for about 4,000 three or four years ago. However, why are ordinary black peaked caps for OR now USD5,000 either? Es ist kaum zu fassen.

Judas [not a very wise handle on Easter Sunday]
The price perhaps relects the rarity of these Mantels compared with the jackets, there is just not many of them about Im afraid,,,,,,,,,, Smile

I guess the speculative inflation with such pieces is considerable. Naturally, a LAH piece as that had by my British friend is more costly than garden variety Allgemeine SS pieces, which I own. The images with Peter Jenkins were impressive though, to be sure, especially of an SSTV officer. I missed a garden variety black over coat recently for just 1200 dollars, which was the twin to a tunic I do indeed own of an SD Unterfuehrer. The tunic is a marvelous piece, but its badges are not especially thrilling. I do know where the overcoat still is, however. It is not unlike the piece on the Whammond site, in fact. Im with Donald and Judas, insane and pure disgusting greed.
By the way GREED was what led to there even being an Easter Sunday, how much was he sold out for?
Right now you can see greed reflected throughout the internet on prices for these "Needfull things" anyone see that Stephan King movie? Nazi relics loomed in the background. He must know something. Also a great MSNBC special last night on obsessive collecting, one man went to jail twice because of his greed. Eek

My reply was in regards to them refering to your name and its meaning to them on this day. Otherwise I could care less what day it is.But your question is valid and the answer eyeopening to say the least.I can understand gradual increase in price but from $4000 to $10000 in a year or two is greedy.

I don't think that anybody is introducing religion, but rather just making the obvious ironic connection. I've wanted one of these too, the only opportunity that I've had, was the SS2 one from Ohio, and also 10K...Donald, are you sure of the price of the Jarvis mantel? I seem to remember that one selling significantly higher. If I remember, it was of a set with black service tunic, and white dress tunic, all sold sepperatly...

***in fact***(I hope there is no problem posting this without permission, but it was posted internet material)...

Hello to you all, just a quick question, all the rising costs off these garments all seem to be pointed at the dealer and no thought as to how much they have had to pay for said garments from collectors. Everyone now from what I can see wants to make as much as they can from there collection all be it a collector or dealer, but as I said we do not know how much these items were bought in at so cannot condem dealer prices, anyway its just a thought.
Happy Easter

thats true too simon but the think with me is and it has been said buy mean here is that a mantel will all ways cost leas then a tunic of same rank and is it more rear then my named white one above?is it ?? .the two mantels above are very very nice and i can see that they could be up there but the ones i have seen come up are not of that caliber.yet are in the top top price range .i just dont under stand how last year they did a poll on this here on tunic - mantel -caps ..and so on..and alot of people took part .now i see the mantel costing more then a nice tunic named . .

Look at the ratio of black tunics for sale to black mantels for sale then you can see why the prices are going up, mantels are far harder to find, and in my opinion far more attractive when displayed on a manniquin. In thirty odd years of collecting I've only located three mantels, the one at the top of this thread being one of them,as opposed to fifteen+ tunics..

Interesting discussion. Thanks to Judas for raising the topic. In other areas (say police), an overcoat brings about 1/3 to 1/2 of what the equivalent tunic brings - IMHO.
But, due to the insignia and relative rarity of the SS overcoats, they seem to go a lot higher. I personally would never pay as much for an overcoat as a tunic. I would have trouble paying much over 1/2 the value of an equivalent tunic. But, to each his own. Glad I got mine at a reasonable price.

I would agree with Keith, these Mantel,s are indeed rare compared with the jackets and they do look fine when shown.

I have been very fortunate to buy the LAH ensembles from Keith awhile ago and the one on his site is also very nice and original.

These woolens are perhaps priced with a view for the collector to keep them for a number of years and reflect their rarity.
Allthough they seem expensive one must I suppose remember what and how long it takes to eek out these from private collectors and Ex SS members families. The air fares the miles covered and the time,,,,,,, Smile

Looking at some sites I would say that many dealers charge as high as double what they have in some items.I wont go into details because it seems prices are not set due to rarity but more according to demand learned from reading these forums. How rare can something be if every year three or more surface for sale on these websites?

People who buy high end items for investment, of coarse want thier investments to grow so they always add the ever present post on how rare and difficult things are to find justifying the current trend. However these items are out there still in the collections of true collectors and if you locate them before a dealer does or an investor you can get a much better deal.

If you pay a thousand today next month it will go up another thousand thats the trend.

Johann

That was in Ohio a year or so ago but went back
to Calif. And was more than 12K

Like many tunics or overcoats, I really
have my doubts that most would pass muster!

So many old collections are loaded with
reworked crap!

Jusr my thoughts!

Yeah, and so many old collections are full of pieces you'd give your right arm to own!! I know of one this minute in Germany, the old boy is in his eighties, he must have nearly forty manniquins four are complete Black SS rigs plus three head to toe Fallschirmjager manniquins, and his son hates the English and Americans, so you can guess where this collection is going to end up in the next few years.

Hi some beautiful items. Oh, Judas I meant no disrespect if that is your real name. There is no hint at political correctness on my part, I don't give a damn about PC. I merely agreed with Stephen in the irony of your forum ID on a day such as Easter, nothing more nothing less. Where someone can twist any thought or implication of political correctness or malice out of what Stephen aka Hooper said is beyond me. It was a little tongue in cheek and nothing more.If you were in any way insulted I for one offer an apology. cheers, Ryan

I posted this already but it was in the wrong thread, yes it was intended for this thread.
I agree with everyone about pricing being about pure greed. Although I never vet acquired any SS tunic’s or overcoats, it is the same the hobby over an item is bought by at a super low price and then ridiculously priced because they know people want the items, and a fake shadow is cast over the items making some really believe that the items are extremely rare and with most items that just isn’t true. Watch Triumph of Will, at today’s prices there has got to be multi-billions of dollars in regalia pictured in that movie, its funny because most these items are not rare today and have never been rare like some would like us to believe. But when ever anyone speaks of prices we get into that supply and demand mubo jumbo. The only problem with that folks is the supply is flowing well and is far from dried up. nuff siad. And who care's if "Judas" choose's to use the name Judas, I hardly think he is reasonable for Jesus being caught and crucified. Just like someone using the name Heinrich isn’t reasonable for death camp’s. But like mentoned this topic has been gone through and closed years ago, let is go.
