Hello:

I found this dagger at a military show a while back and it has a ss number 93608 engraved on the cross guard.

I have seen other numbered daggers and the number usually appear to be stamped.

Does anyone have the ability to tell me if this number is in the "key"

Thanks

Is the dagger a model 33 SS?

If so, which maker?

Best regards,

Herman

What makes you think that it is a 33?
Can't see any Roman districtmark on the lower guard...

The chain might be a B2 but the dagger itself looks to me like an early one with nickle siver crossguards and perhaps a manufacturer´s mark?
So a later upgrade during the period?

Yes, off course. I see the point now.
But then it's just an earlier M36 dagger in a newer scabbard (B2) due of the lak of Roman numbering.

No chance in getting closeups of the center ramp as it does not appear to be correct....or the flash gives it that appearance

To clarify a small point:

The lack of a Roman numeral is NOT a sign that a dagger is an M36.

Not all M33 daggers have Roman numerals. No one knows the reason. I have observed that the rarer makers seldom have the numerals, but I have owned 3 Klass daggers without and a Hammesfahr with no Roman Numerals

Thank you Dave for these importaant facts. I did know that an early SSdaggger does not need the roman numerals at all but I did not know these details. Important to know.

A closeup is always better than such a small, undetailed pic, but generally, only in this pic, I can see no immediate red flag. Nevertheless it would be necessary to get detailed pics to be able to classify for sure.

Yes, that is also true.
Schüttelhöfer, Gembruch, 121's are indeed without Roman numbers. Because they started producing SS daggers after this numbering period. Still early enough to use nickel parts.

On the other hand we also see type C's with full nickel guards and plated scabbardfittings.

Curious though if this dagger indeed is a early makermarked piece.
So lets wait for the pictures.

Btw Dave... what is a 'Klass' dagger?
I presume you mean 'Klaas'?

A shame we may never know more of the dagger. The OP hasn't posted here on GD since 2008.
