I had to move my stuff out of the museum that was displaying it, and it has filled up my front room (and spilled out into other cupboards and storage boxes).

Down the centre (there are so many boxes and things you cannot walk from from side to the other without moving things). Those are genuine Late War Gebirgs Skis, but someone has replaced the original leather straps with green web straps.

A couple of shots with a bit more detail. First the clothes rack. Twenty odd uniforms here, most with matching breeches, including a few wraps, both grey and black.

Display cabinet of peaked field caps. A few have interesting badges on the left side (like 116th Pz Windhunds, Edelweiss, Oakleaves, and Oakleaves with Skis). Stuff on top is fun too. A field radio, missing its outer casing, and a portable typewriter that belonged to an infantry colonel, complete with original purchase receipt, instructions, spare ribbon, carry case, waterproof fabric cover, tools and more.

Display Cabinet of Schirms. Those cut off on the left side, do appear in later photos. Every army waffenfarbe, except grey.

Bottom shelf, with a lot of cooking and eating stuff, plus items I like for some bizarre reason, like a period hair trimmer, with its original box.

I'm not really complaining, but I got so used to the stuff being spread out so it is able to be appreciated, it is very tough with it all crammed into a small space.

This is aggravated by the fact that I still have fifteen completely kitted out mannequins to find room for!

In answer to the question. I do plan to open a museum of sorts, when I retire, which is still five years off, at least.

I've got big plans. How well my superannuation does between now and then will have a lot to do with what I will actually achieve.

I guess I've got the same disease as Doug. I'll still be buying this stuff on my last day on earth, and if thats a long way off, I guess many more rooms in my house will look like this!

A few years ago I visited a forum member in CA. Not enough space for his collection in the house So,he had bought a old construction site office trailer. Cleaned it up, carpet,paint, alarm, humidifier etc. the whole works. Put it at the back of his yard with a few small bushes in front. Great idea... They come in different lengths/sizes and can be purchased rather inexpensively,maybe a place for your stuff temporarily.. You can always sell it when your done with it too!

The storage boxes are all full of Third Reich stuff as well (mainly equipment, but some uniform acrutrements like shirts, socks, gloves, underwear, overwear, field jackets, etc)

How many years has gone into this collection?? It is quite amazing.

I'll be 50 this year. I started collecting when I was a kid. So ...

About 40 years, but seriously for about 30 years (can't collect much when you don't have an income).

Originally, like many kids, I collected all things military. As a teenager, I realised I had to specialise, and decided on the German Army of World War 2. I still have some other stuff, but the vast majority is Wehrmacht Heer.

There used to be a time in the 60's and early 70's when you couldn't help but find something German in a pawn shop, surplus store, secondhand shop etc..

Those were the days...

After posting this, I was forced to move house. My new house is a lot bigger, with room to spread the collection out.

Once I have finshed unpacking, and organising, I will post pictures of my new 'den'.

Doug, I do miss the early days, when tunics and headgear were really cheap, and reproductions were unusual, and usually fairly obvious.

Should you find that you don't have room in the new house, for that Cavalry visor, please let me know. It would finally complete my Cavalry uniform...:)
