Dear collector friends, please take a look at
http://forum.germandaggers.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=333932&#Post333932
Although I did observe the marking on SS Degens the question is -in general- SS, also SS daggers, related.
Thank you in advance, regards,

Nothing like it on early makers marked SS daggers. You can find occasional numbers stamped on these daggers, mostly out of sight on wood of the grip. I have one with "2" stamped on the lower scabbard fitting.

Could this be a code for the length of the scabbard? The SS swords were produced in several length.

Dave, thank you for reply and your thoughts. It is a big help for me to know that there are no such markings eg on daggers. Personally I think these are (cloth-)chamber marks of any (certain) unit which did use this number system. All IIIR sabers, degen and swords have been produced in different lengths conforming the hight of the wearer but I have not seen such marks on any other degen etc. Therefore my feeling is these are chamber marks which would conform to the fact that these are NCO degens. But I do not know.
