Wow, thats a real beauty, Mike! And it's so hard to find a legit period SA ring...this would make a super daily wearer! Fantastic idea!

Mike,, I know you were wrestling a bit on whether to post this. Glad you did. You actually are doing a service to some of the new collectors. What could this have taken you actually to do,,1/2 hr?, a real SA dagger button? There are many that would carve a few embellishments on the side,,maybe a engraving in the band and put on the auctions. AND, there are some that would pay $100. or more for this with a good story!! OR,,imagine a old blank with hallmarks, an SS button in there and skulls carved on the sides and maybe one of the dates from the HR engraved in band!,,they'd go nuts Remember this topic new collectors! Mikes an honest guy showing showing what can be done with a simple drill press, old blank and dagger button.. I've said this many times,,value on any 'period hand carved - campaign made' ring,,,value? not much and IF you just have to have it try and pay as little as you can for it! Buyers beware! Mike,,Much thanks for showing and cool wearer for sure!

My buddy down in the STEM lab was part of the project We did it on a whim and yes that is an authentic sa dagger roundel However I have highlighted and skipped over a few steps in the process It was fun and we learned a lot so we have some ideas for the next time Takes a couple days because of the curing and the fact we had to do it in fits and starts We did it in the morning and on lunches and prep periods I wish we spent less than 100 dollars to make it but it went beyond that But it was great fun and we have some ideas now Thanks for the reviews all Best of both worlds with authentic parts and yes its an easy wearer Comfy too lol

A cool looking wearer and rather easy and cheap to make. If made from period parts and in the right way it isn`t to date. Very good expamle for such work. Thanks Mike for showing this to us.
So guys, always you see a handmade ring think on this real good example and stay careful in buying.

Thanks chris I really appreciate the photos We were working with different table depths to see if we could still make the nice flush ring surface for the cartouche. So far so good! Next lesson we learned is that each roundel is ever so slightly different sized so that was a surprise. Next week we try some embellishments. We can cut and resize the rings now and have a laser for etching and engraving we want to experiment with. Great fun this project has been. Rings getting better now too, some ss roundels are coming. Much harder to find and much more expensive than the sa. The next ring blanks are period pieces from Germany coming in a month or so. Even have the ads to go with them. Much thinner table depth and much finer rings. Authentic roundels in period pieces coming sometime soon stay tuned
