There is a few of us who use this forum that continue to advocate the need for period reference, every now and again I learn something from buying catalogues something that I have never seen before. I personally have not seen an accoutrements catalog before, perhaps some of you guys have other accoutrement catalogues you could show.

Here's something that I have seen within this catalogue, I have seen these hangers but never known what they were used for. They are for a very specific edged weapon has anybody got any idea's before I reveal it. It will be interesting to hear from you guys as I have heard all sorts of differing views before on them.

Hi Gary I have no idea but my guess would be for this to fit around the lug on a police bayonet or one of your favourite hunting/ forestry /shooting daggers. Using the slip device on the front to hold it tight

Thanks guys, this is one of the best catalogues I have found to date, there are a few other titbits in there that surprised me as well.

Cheers

Well, THAT is a find! I have never heard of such a catalog even in Germany itself. For sure a fountain of knowledge.
I would have put the hanger in question to the LW general degen as I remember photographs where such hanger have been used with them.
As often there is a multiple possibility of usage, but the original purpose is most interesting.
Thank you for showing, perhaps you can show us a little more of the catalog?

Baz69, thank you very much.
Even the color of the leather and the kind of the leather ("Saffian") is sometimes mentioned! Wonderful.
I am sure that the prominent "Triskele" HYouth leader hangers are also pictured.
Regards,

Interestingly, both kind of HYouth hangers, the ones with and the ones without the certain leather stamped mm, are manufactured in exactly the same way. Alsio the markings of the clips (bottom and top) are exactly the same. We never will know why some are leather marked and some are not. Perhaps it is the same why some eg. army daggers are marked and some are not marked.
I think it is also an interesting observation of mine that IF hangers do come together with the dagger (in tracable ORIGINAL composition) mostly (always?) marked hangers do come with EICKHORN daggers and the unmarked hangers do come with H?RSTER daggers.

BTW, Redbaron, a VERY nice pair of hangers you have!

Here are mine (unmarked), with proper belt loops (unmarked).

Gary,

A fascinating thread that escaped me, that Luneschloss catalogue is a super find. I've occasionally seen leather good marked by their logo but never been able to acquire one. I particularly like the Feuerwehr and Zoll pages too.

I have a set of gilt RAD Leader hangers which are reverse marked and I just pulled them out to see if they were so marked but sadly not. I can make out a name "Ernst ***nen Solingen" and a date of 1938.

Wotan,

A superb HJ rig and as if that weren't enough, an extra loop, wow!
