Good afternoon everybody,
First of all, I want to introduce myself. My name is Marc. I'm from Barcelona (Catalonia) and... a passionate for German Daggers.
I want to apologize in advance for my English.
I have been trying to learn from you in this forum... reading your advices and opinions. Reading all along the forum... even bought a book about the materia.
I found this dagger in my search... I'm really interested in buying it but... I got diferent opinions from two collegues... One says everyting looks fine... and the other one says it is a laser replica...
I would really apreciate your opinion.
Thanks in advance !
Kind regards,
Marc.

Hmm, the grip and SS button, group III mark look good to me. I think the motto has been re-blackened with paint. Are you sure this is a laser etch grumpy? It does have some irregularities like an original acid etch, unless they have improved on the laser etchings to make them look more irregular?

I disagree, Grumpy. The trademark is NOT laser etched - you can see the acid 'nibles'. I Agree with John (above) about the grip/crossguards and motto. They are OK. The scabbard is an early one but looks as if it had been painted.

The motto looks to have been darkened an extra amount. Compare the darkness to the mfg. logo lightness. Handle and crossguards look OK to me.

Thank you all for your opinions!!! Thanks Ryan for your welcome I have a small collection of German daggers (two Luftwaffe first model, one second model, one Heer, one Kriegsmarine and one SA) I think it's time to get my first SS one... I've been trying to learn here, and in other specialized webs and books... but I have had just a pair of them in my hands. I mean... study is not enough. I really appreciate your attention. Thanks guys!

It might not be laser etched, I didn't say it is. Look at the "A's" in the trademark and compare them with known authentic examples. I owned one like this a few years ago and I have no doubt the blade is a postwar replica. Suit yourselves, but I wouldn't touch this one.

Sorry Grumpy, indeed you did not say it was laser etched. my bad. Here's a picture of the Maker mark from an SS I had in the past for comparison.

I stand corrected. I got my wires crossed on the logo. Recollections through a foggy memory. I should have verified what I thought before posting. There is a fake blade out there which has the crossbars on the A's wrong. I have no idea if it was laser-etched or not. If so, it was an early example of such. Sorry for any inconvenience or heartburn.

MarcGB, Just to add to what has been said, I have a Hammersfahr In hand. Both the TM and III stamp are pretty identical including placement. I also agree the scabbard is a repaint.

If it has a repainted scabbard and re-blackened motto it would not be one for me, blade also looks like it has been heavily cleaned with all those surface scratches on it.
Best Russ.

the grip doesn`t look good to me - too fat, no rib wrong and proportions and blade and motto was already mentioned - I would not touch that one
If you dont know everything, you should know someone who does

The dagger is still on sale and I'm still doubting. I also thing the scabbard is repainted... but not sure about the motto... if so... a very good work, but as pointed here, it calls my attention the excellent quality of the motto against the scratches all along the blade... Thanks a lot. I really appreciate. Kind regards. Marc

Marc, don't ever buy anything that you yourself are not 100% on-board with. For example, if you bought this piece, you will always have a little "doubt" in the back of your mind about it. Pay a little more or shop around more for something that is 100% correct....you don't want to answer questions down the road if you happen to sell this item at a later date. My 2cents.
Happy hunting, Patrick

Wise words Patrick.
That's why I'm trying to know what's really wrong with this piece. One with no issues is about +$1000 above this one... if the only problem with this one is a repainted scabbard I would consider... if there are more issues... would forget it.
Thanks again for your words. You're right and I have to think about it.
Cheers

Hi Marc my opinion from pics scabbard could be period repaint or post. A darkened motto could be period or post war still with these the dagger would retail for $1850 to $2200 in current market a better market perhaps a high of $2500 cheers and best, Ryan
