On these types of rings it is sometimes difficult to see the joint mark.
This is not a silver ring.
It is an alloy of yellow metal with silver coating.
If the silver coating to erase that joint mark will be seen well )))

Doesn't look real bad.
But the fault at the swas looks also not a fault in strucking to me.
At least very questionable.
More and better pics of the back side are maybe helpful.

I do not understand what you do not like guys. Silver coating darkened and is in his native patina. The fact that the ring is made a stamp is obvious.

My 'West wall' ring that I showed earlier also looked, until I washed off his patina. By the way he does not see the joint mark.

I don`t want to hurt you Sergey, but for me there are a lot clear differences to a sure period one.
So for me a fake.
Just my personal opinion.
Maybe other guys have other opinions.

Odal,

what kind of metal is your ring?

Sorry, If you compare, what you showed, then the fake looks more like your ring.
What I see in your ring is a certain degree of wear. But why do not I see yellow metal in places of wear and tear. My ring is in mint condition. My ring has no wear at all. Can it bother you? But it happens, because not all rings lie in the ground :-)

Brass with silver plating and the plating is worn of in parts.
Look at the tip of left wing.

And yes, not all ring came from the ground. Some are made in last time.

Be happy with and enjoy it that is the most important.

hi members
hello sergey just was looking at your luft ring and i have to agree with odel its a fake copy i could see the joint seem where it was cut i think that seem was cut deliberatly not like most german ww2 rings was removed from fallen soldiers then we see the seems that was cut to resize the ring but this is not the case here . odel is right on target here with this newly made fake luft ring and he has great judgement please try and take in to concideration that odel nor me have no dogs in this fight we are only telling you what we see and to also try and get your hard earned rubels back thats if you believe our experence eyes or not if you still persist that the previous owner has your ear then so be it what can we say these rings are tempting probly because they are a lower price to intice you to buy hope you can bring this ring back and this is my experenced opinion god bless andy militarianut

Thank you guys for your opinions. I appreciate your experience and opinions and do not want the discussion to turn into an embittered debate. I can easily return my money without problems. But at the same time I do not want to you make an error in the otributatsii this ring.
Let's see a few more photos and compare.
I marked the red with suspicious points. Maybe Odal will be kind and give a photo of a similar angle of his ring.

As an assumption. But there could be different manufacturers of this type of brass rings. They have never been maker mark. Perhaps this is the reason for the difference between different samples IMO.

Can someone else show their samples of similar types of rings for comparison.

Your opinions please.

Could be possible but i don`t believe in.
Sure is that the both rings shown in the comparison pic are made with different dies.

I think it is not a unique handmade piece.
So you need to make more than one of exact same items at least a kind of die, a mold .....or similar.

Hope you understand what i want to tell...my english istn`t real as good as i wish.

Hi Milytarynut,

thanks for your thoughts and ideas. I will take note.

I just want to show here for comparison two rings.
One of them you recognized a few years ago as original. In my opinion they are very similar in type of manufacture. You don't notice?

Militarynut,

I can advise you to seek consultation to Weitze.Because this ring was bought 5 years ago by my acquaintance from him.

A nice day to.

Again a thread that's growing to a monster.
Boys, let's go back to the stuff-the topic starting ring.
Maybe still some other guys with an opinion about here.

This second ring. The Westwall one.
Can't remember that someone called it good.
The pics this time in the Westwall thread were rather small. If it comes from the same source as the Luft ring i would be meanwhile sceptical and would suggest you, only if you are interested, a closer comparison with for sure period ones in a separate thread.
So, if you are interested feel free to Start this thread with some clear large pics of the details.
Thanks

Please Sergey no machinegun-fire in this thread.
There are people that spend only free time here, have to work long hours and sleep sometimes.
As told, please ring for ring and thread for thread.
Stay in this thread by the roots and this starting ring.
And if we all came to an result we talk about the next on the first look fine looking ring.
Think this is the best way to work without any confusion (at least for older guys like me).
Thanks!

And....i am real wondering there are no other guys here that stand to their own opinion.

Back to your Luft ring.
You would agree yours and the ring i showed are different?

For some reason Sergey none of your pictures stay loaded for me more than a split second; then disappear..; I can't qualify any opinion as I can't see the pictures, might be my device I don't know.

Hi Mike,

I'm sorry, but I do not know the reason for this.

Think this is the best way to work without any condition (at least for older guys like me).
Thanks!

And....i am real wondering there are no other guys here that stand to their own 1opinion.

Back to your Luft ring.
You would agree yours and the ring i showed are different?

Yes, Odal, I see that your ring is different from mine. But I already said that it could be different manufacturers and, accordingly, different die.

Please, let's finish the discussion. I'm tired. Thank you very much for your opinions.

The only thing that I realized that some rings must be held in their hands to determine their authenticity. But unfortunately the Internet can not yet transfer items from hand to hand :-)

Thanks again to all
Sergey

- Good work Odal!

Now I know some members have examples of this pattern. Please try and post photos -
Nice straight cartouche,,behind it, birds eye,,I think those 3 shots might do it. Please anyone add whatever you'd think will do it..

I can't promise but I'll try and get to mine and post photos..

ALL the significant details will be same..

Here we go.
A hard worn silver example, Although such much wearing you see the differences to the topic starting ring.
Don`t want to show close ups of the back but it is also differnt to the first ring in thread.
Backside is rather soft because of using a soft and rather thick liner while strucking this rings.
G., please correct me if i am wrong.

I can only see your images Sergey for about .5 seconds before it disappears... is anyone else having this problem?! Anyhow, even in that split second - i saw a difference .... so I reloaded the page, and quick as I could- snapped a picture- here's the screenshot. It looks quite different - look at the 2 Eagles.

I see that they are identical, just photographed at different angles. Odal also noticed that they were identical.
Why you do not see it, I do not know.
On the ring that was dug from the ground, traces of corrosion are visible.
Well, what else can I say. Look closely.

Best regards,
Sergey

Ah. Ok I see Sergey- that is why the two appeared different from each other. However, I am seeing some real differences in the post by odal. There is something above the Eagles head/ shoulders that looks like a couple balls. It would appear they are casting balls. Just my opinion.

Of course I considered whether or not they could be acorns. They probably were supposed to be when he mold was made, now they look much more like....well, let's just stick with balls of some sort....

For sure is that the last 3 rings in the row are absolutly identical from the pattern.
The 2 first rings are without any doubts different.
That`s fact.

Mikes's right. And I notice that odd "acorn/balls" set on 5 of the rings in that picture. If any other member has any other/similar rings -please post! I don't have any myself, but I know how good postwar copies are.. guys- remember last max- gaspare and I found one being sold as good that was a very good fake (the stamps were a giveaway!) The next day of max- another member here unfortunately ended up purchasing it!! Be CAREFUL out there! Mike- you coming to max??

Interesting would be to know from where all these rings come/where are they found.
I can only speak for my 2. They come from Germany and this is the exact pattern of this type of rings that was for sure period produced here.

Odal, I'm sorry, but the truth is in comparison.
My friend Oleg today kindly provided me with a variety of types of these LW rings.
So we think that the second ring on the left is identical to my ring.
All the rings are original, and please pay attention to the variety of production stamps.

Best regards,
Sergey

All in all a difficult theme.
I can only tell my opinion and what i have seen over the years in collecting such rings.
And as every collector i learn every day.

Otherwise i can`t imagine that there are so much different dies for one pattern, sold be one company. Usually there is one mother die to make the working dies.
A mystery for me if this different rings are all should be made from the same company.

Still a short remark:
I lost my unconditionally trust in diggers still years ago. Real sorry to have to say that.

Let`s here what the other guys here think.

Otherwise (we forget backside in moment), while looking close on the real large and good pic on vk.com i would say the plates of the 2 outer rings are the same and look like my 2 rings.
Front of the 2 middle rings more than your ring.

I'm sorry my friend:

"For comparison, Oleg's ring and my ring. In my opinion they are identical."

Both those rings are very good cast fakes..AND if you look very closely you will see many differences between the 2.. All thru the 1970s I've seen these rings,,from vets and in auctions. Then all thru the 80s the same thing. Then same in beginning of 90s. late 90s, now,,we see these fakes. By the way silver survives pretty good in the ground,,nesilber doesn't no matter what the soil. I've heard every digger story, "there is no Oxygen because of the clay. the ring was sealed in a foot locker we dug up, [sorry getting off point here],I've heard every story and seen some bad things..
Sorry over 20 years of seeing the same pattern with the same characteristics. They are German made, with same mother die and sold to Luft soldiers.
The USSR break up and we see 'variants from Russia,Ukraine,Poland, the Baltic countries. No, my opinion they are fakes and show characteristics of being fakes. Hey, thats me,my opinion,,your happy then great, we can agree to disagree...
