Hi all im new here but been collecting for a few years. I recently picked up a legit ground rohm Aesculap SA dagger for $189 (20 for shipping). To my surprise it surely was a legit dagger and a very nice heavy early original (not a parts dagger) dagger. It has no scabbard but for the price I cant complain. I wish I could post pics but I dont have premium membership. Overall would you guys say it was a good buy. Tips nice, inscription is totally 100% factory ground motto and maker mark are lightish but still there. Gru mark is SW and its an Aesculap of tuttligen. How much do you figure a decent early scabbard will run me? Thanks for any replies!

Hi - you can still post up to 5 photos even with a regular membership here- sometimes the images need to be resized, and I am not a dagger guy- but welcome! And if I may speak on behalf of most of us- I think we would love to see these pictures, please!

Yes I post them from mine all the time - if cropping doesn't work email them to yourself (your iCloud account works best-) then when the message says it's too large- pick a smaller size, then open the email, save all the images- and post those. It's the only way I have ever been able to do it, but I understand there are resizing tools available.

I am particular to that brand. They are the sharpest of all sa daggers literally ! A partial grind on one of those took a day. I think the handles are berkanau birch .

Hope this works I resized and did the File manager thing, let me know if you guys can see them and if so how they turned out. The varnish on the handle was sanded down by the vet, but the Sa rune button and eagle are still there, and it's all original. I'm only 26 and this is my first SA dagger, I'm starting college in the fall for HVAC so I don't have a grand to drop on a dagger at the moment, but $169 fit the budget, and for the price I like it, what do you guys think? Also how much would a decent scabbard cost for this?

finally something visible I can see the maker mark and the grind spot can everyone else? Its been ground good, when I tilt the blade I can just barely see the last ghostly remnants of Ernst rohms signitaure but the inscription parts 100% gone, not much crossgrain left on the back. Would you guys say that was factory done or backyard on the grinding stone? I'm no expert on this. GRU is SW don't think you can make that out. I haven't tried taking it apart yet, I'm always terrified the first time I take one apart, heard quite a few horror stories. What would I use a combination wrench or a socket? Anybody know the size of the pommel nut in mm's?

Send me original, full sized pictures and I will post for you. dave@germandaggers.com

Find a 3/8 inch or 10mm wrench and grind it flat on both sides so it can fit on the nut. Do NOT use vice grips / sockets, etc

Producer is Aesculap and would be a bit of a rarity but can not say its a Rohm dagger in the pics provided.

Standard Aesculap SA em are quite common.
