Hello
I've just purchased my first RLB 1st Model dagger. On closer inspection in bright light I've noticed the RLB logo on the grip appears to have been glued rather than pinned, suggesting it's come away and then been repaired with glue. I'm confident the dagger and logo are original but my question is how does this issue affect the value of the dagger compaired to if the logo had never come away in the first place?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks
Luke

MerlinSS, nowadays there are excellent fakes especially of 1st Mod. RLB daggers around. Will you show us pics of your dagger?

A glued emblem always raises suspicion.

Original, untouched daggers of this kind are very rare. If the emblem on such a (original) dagger did become loose and has been incompetent restorated I think a discount from about 5-10% (from what price range???) would be ok - WHEN you do accept restoration. Otherwise you have to stay with untouched historical artefacts and avoid restorated daggers.

Thank you for the replies.
Here are a few photos I've just taken of the logo, grip, makers mark, etc.
I can't get a good photo of the edge of the logo which shows glue beneith but its definitely there.

MerlinSSS/Luke, the dagger looks indeed totally original at least what I can see from your pics. Also the emblem itself. The problem with this kind of daggers is, that only by switching the grip emblem (especially when glued!) you can change a (more common) 2nd model to a rarer 1st model dagger. YouŽll never be able to detect such a change. Under this aspect I personally would avoid such a dagger at all. If you want it unconditionally it would need a servere price drop in regard of an untouched one.
Although I personally would like more nicklesilver fittings with a 1st Mod dagger, I am aware that sometimes also this leightweight nickled grip fittings can appear on a 1st Mod.

Hi Wotan
Thanks for the opinion/advise, sounds like it's impossible to tell whether its 1st or 2nd model, it was sold to me as a 1st model !. I paid Ł1,500 ($1,900), does that sound like a fair price to you considering the problem ? I have seen higher prices for 2nd models on dealer websites with repainted scabbards. Regards Luke
