Has anyone ever seen a real Railroad Sword produced between 1933-45? I've only seen one and it is for sale by a deceased questionable dealer. I take that back, he wasn't even questionable.

Hello Notaguru, generally there is no "Railroad Sword" known between 1933-45. But we have to differ. Railroad service men and Railroad Protection Police. Personally I have never seen a photograph of a railroad service man with any edged weapon. RRPP men did wear edged weapons. Mainly bayonets, bayonets witht the rare and distinct RRPP knot, leaders the RRPP dagger and, seen on rare period pics, also sometimes (due to uniform regulations) a saber. This has NOT been a special branch saber but any IIIR saber. One I am aware is a "simple", common IIIR lions head saber by WKC but with a special feature, an inventory stamp of the RRPP ("D R" für Deutsche Reichsbahn). Regards.

Wotan: Thanks for the quick reply. I never could find any reference to a 3R Railroad Sword except for the one site. Some one must have cast a clamshell for it. Brian Rich

Mine was a Third Reich saber, with eagle and swastika, and the Deutsche Reichbahn stamp under the crossguard. Joe S

I've been to Charlie's home and looked at maybe 1% of his inventory. He had a ton of quality original items. Only problem is that it was mixed in with truckloads of fakes & damaged items. You really had to know your stuff to get what you went thee looking for. It will take a month of Sundays to weed through the volume of Militaria he had just in his home. I was told he had several storage sites as well.

As already stated the 4th Reich is alive and well in old collections of junk as this example shows. Wotan also correct in that early period regulations mention German Army style sabers for Bahnschutz senior grade NCO's with the Officer's knot and above. Best Regards, Fred
