Are the pits cast or from being in the ground?

With a silver hallmark (835) for me no way for such corrosion.

A ring i real don`t like.
The pattern is well known.

I agree with Odal, ground dug silver does not corrode like that. My father was a metal detector hobbyist for many years, I've watched him dig up silver coins that were significantly older than the alleged age of that ring and not damaged like that.

I have the same pattern also a dug found. Will show you later. It was burned and damaged. I have repaired it but there was no corrosion like above.

All of the pits on the front is what worried me. The first picture is supposedly before being cleaned and the second after.

It is artificial aging with chemicals or they are passing off intentionally poor casting as "ground dug". Not that there are not legit dug rings, but IMO most of what I have seen listed as "dug" rings are highly suspect at the least. Unless you know and 100 percent trust the dealer, I would walk away.

Wise words.
In my opinion a bad cast fake with chemical aging.

Thanks everyone for the input- this is what we do well and do best! Let's keep it up! You know, I couldn't help but go back (and if you haven't done this yet- please do!) and read Gaspare's parting words to us that essentially began with the warning on ground dug items.. not that they don't exist or are never ok- but remember....this is ONE OF the things now we are battling. The future of collecting these pieces is what's at stake- including the value you place on your own collections! Thank you again guys, very proud of this forum- it's good karma!
