Baz69, a killer blade. What a shame about the grip wire. Imho in this special case a kind of restauration (perhaps the old wire can be used by a skilled amateur) would be of value.
Yes, a "Minenwerfer" is a mortar or grenade launcher and here within the unit of the Infantry Regiment #75. The manufacturer mark and naturally the etching or "Damaszierung" with the two eagles put the piece for sure within the IIIR period.

Great sword, Gary, congratulations with this find!
Very tough to find blades like that in my opinion.
Personally, I would not care too much about the grip wire, it is just part of the swords history.
