It looks perfectly authentic in all respects. The tip of the scabbard is not shown and should have a painted "drag," not a silver-finished fitting as seen only on officer swords.

THank you for your answer Grumpy ... yes it is like the Polizei NCO ...
It looks legit to me ... only 02 things annoy me : The grip and the scabbard throat ...
1 ) The grip seems a bit out of place , misfitting compared with photos of other degens i see around ... the pommel is a bit bended as if the grip was too long for the D guard ... does this grip seems legit to you ?
2 ) I see a kultruzeichen on the sword but not on the scabbard throat ... could it be under the pitting ? if it isn't there at all would that mean a swap of scabbard ? unless some of you guys have encountered a SS stamped sword with unmarked scabbard ? or the other way round ?
Regards
Briac

I see your concern about the grip. It appears to be an authentic grip, but, you are correct regarding the fit. The grip could be a replacement, during the Third Reich period or later. It looks as though it is longer than it should be for a proper fit. It is not possible to know why this is with certainty. Yes, it is not unheard of for the kultruzeichen to be absent from the scabbard throat while it is present on the handguard. My main concern would be the fit of the grip. As stated, it appears to be an authentic grip. It is not easy, although not impossible, for a grip to be replaced on these degens. Usually, you will see pliers marks on the pommel cap if this has taken place, but, removal and replacement of the grip can be done undetectably, if done carefully. If the grip fit concerns you now, it will concern you for as long as you own the sword, if you buy it. As you note, the only difference in these swords and police examples is the grip and the pommel cap, although some police examples also have the SS cap. So, I would pass on this sword, or find someone knowledgeable who is able to adjust the fit of the grip after purchase.

I don’t ever recall seeing an SS-Kulturzeichen stamp like that on any makers blade. WKC used just the runes on theirs and Herman Raft used runes in a diamond on its blades. Weyersburg didn't use the SS-Kulturzeichen on their hilts or scabbards and I don’t think they used anything but a trademark on their blades.
