Several years ago, we had an extensive thread on these bayonets which is of course, no longer available. Several were pictured, some with Police grip eagles and several with out. They all had 17" blades. I do remember that George (ORPO) had one. If you have one, please post pictures. Hopefully, someone will be able to shed a little light on these unusual bayonets - George? Houston?

Denny,
Here is my example. All of these I have seen have been made by Weyersberg with this oval maker marking. I have seen a couple with altered wooden grips that have the 1936 style police eagle added to the obverse grips. The ones with these plain numbers all seem to belong together from one department but I have seen one or two that are "Th." property marked. I presume these to be small town police (Gempo) bayonets. Ingo Lohken shows one pictured on what appears to be a Weimar Republic period Paul Weyersberg catalog page as item (e) on page 100 of his book, "Die Polizei Uniformen in Preussen 1866-1945."

Here is the correct way to tie the knot on the Police bayonet shown on a clamshell. It is also the proper method of tie for all Beamte.

I have had a couple over the years and. as I remember, they are said to be from the town of Trier. No serial number over 3 digit low has been seen and its about equal number between those with the Nazi Police Eagle and wreath and those without same.

Well, I hope my following comments makes sense. Firstly, thanks for the pictures & comments. That said, it brings up some interesting points. As George mentioned, Ingo Lohken's book "The Police Uniforms in Prussia, 1866-1945 shows one pictured on what appears to be a Weimar Republic period Paul Weyersberg catalog. However, Joe states that abbreviation Tr. isn't recognized in the Prussian regulations. Like Ron, I have always thought that Tr. marked pieces represented Trier - however, Trier is located in SW Germany near the Luxembourg border; nowhere near Prussia. Also, I recently encountered a Weimar Police Luger marked T.59. on the gripstrap (see picture). According to the experts on Jan Still's site, this is correct for Trier. Wouldn't it seem logical for all Trier Police weapons of the period to be marked the same? - with either a T. or a Tr.?
This makes me wonder if we're not back to square one in identifying these bayonets. Perhaps Herr Lohken erred by attributing them to the Prussian Police and perhaps it is also not attributed to the Trier Police. Being confused is pretty much a normal condition for me, but this just gets curiouser and curiouser. Does anyone have Jeff Noll's book? It would be interesting to see what he attributes Tr. to...

David,
Yes, your bayonet is proper for WKC. These late Feuerschutzpolizei bayonets were made with unplated polished hilts and are found matt grey like this today. They made them with, and without, sawbacks in this short bayonet form. Perfectly original. See page 121 of my book, "Seitengewehr: History of the German Bayonet 1919-1945" for a sawback WKC example of this bayonet.

Very nice & seldom seen variant. Only observed a few over the years but those that I've seen were all quite similar, short blade, either marked WKC or unmarked, matte unplated hilt & a copper Polizei sword grip eagle pinned to the grip. Some I've seen had sawbacks, some plain blades. Here's mine.
