Gentlemen,
I am trying to find out what the grip plate of this Bavarian court sword tells us.
Is it a "JL" under the crown?
Does anyone knows what it means?

I dont know. I just looked at the linage of the Bavarian Empire and now my head is all scrambled. What does the blade look like and is there a makers mark to figure out a time period? I would say the early 20th century. The JL could be from Ludwig III reign.

Thanks for the reply, Ritterkreuz.
The blade is blued with gilded engravings. There is a small mark near the guard, but I cannot make it out.
The scabbard is marked with "Johann Strollberger, Munich" which was a sword retailer.
Finishing and gilding are about the best I have found so far.
Hope someone knows more about these?

I dont know but that is a stunning saber. I have the Prussian version of this sword and these are truly works of art.

An exceptionally nice Bavarian officials' sword  the workmanship and way it's made with that type of blued and gilt blade - I think puts it in the reign of Ludwig I of Bavaria (1825-1848). Best Regards, Fred
