Dear collector friends,
I would like to ask what kind of sword this is? It has two silver stars added to the knuckle guard, as seen on some Japanese army swords.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Paul,
Thank you for your fast response! I thought the same when I found it. But I cannot find it in Jim Dawson's reference book "Swords of Imperial Japan"... The decorations on the guards are different: the sun is replaced by 6 flags and leaves...
Any other opinions?
Best regards,
Herman

A Japanese sword wouldn't have gothic style letters engraved on it and should incorporate a mum on it somewhere.
I suspect South American somewhere.

Since I have been banned from the other forum forever. For making fun of the online experts there I will answer your question here... I guess the comment of (casting pearls before swines) hit home.. It is a Belgian Sword.. Eickhorn made a model very similar and there model number was 345 Regards: James

Yes, well known staff and field design but (different clam shell design etc..) Just look up the Eickhorn Model number 345 and there it is. This model is listed under the country of Belgium (also).. Having catalogs helps here..

After looking at the model in the Eickhorn catalog tonight one thing different.. It has a (very small) lion for Belgium in the center of the clam-shell.. So I made a mistake again ...Same style hilt etc.. Regards: James

Thank you all, for your reactions!
This sword appears to be a French general's degen, which were worn during the French 3rd republic, that is from 1870 until 1940 (France's defeat by the 3rd Reich during WW2)
Here is another one:
Best regards,
Herman
