As the title says, like many dont have the money to buy a real one. So the only option I have is to part one together. I'm sorry for creating a market for repros but its the only option I have.
Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.
First option I found was Scott at Totls.com. Although not perfect, I bought a semi-decent repro from him that left me wanting, especially the more I looked at the real thing online. Main problem being the handle to cross guard fit (gapped) and the scabbard in general. Also the Meine Ehre inscription etching was too deep.
Im told Reddick sells the most authentic parts so I ordered what I need to build a complete a dagger.
The next thing I am going to try is getting an SA dagger and scabbard sans handle from eBay and put one together that way.
Anyways glad to be a member here, I've burned out on Google searches, and look forward to learning more here. I'm fairly up-to-speed with collector knowledge, just trying to find sources for building a "perfect" SS dagger and scabbard repro on a budget.
I also own an original 1st model Railway dagger I bought in Czech Rep.

You will always be left wanting with a repro dagger no matter how nice they may look, for the simple reason that it has no history or legitimacy attached to it. Would be far better off with a flawed original than a perfect repro, though of course even in poor condition they may be beyond whatever your budget is.

Thanks Doug--Yeah, I'm starting to warm to the idea of saving for a decent SA/NSKK dagger--its that SS button and black handle of the SS daggers that really pique my interest though. I'm hoping to find a clean SA/NSKK with a damaged handle or something and convert it. Mind you I have no intention of trying to fool anyone with a fake ss dagger, its purely for my enjoyment only.
Wheres the best place to get a fair price on SA/NSKK daggers? It ******** that some cry babies at eBay flag ss daggers as offensive.

Nothing wrong in principle from wanting a copy of an expensive item, there is a guy right here on this forum who makes excellent HR copies and has been selling quite a few, I bought 2 of them myself. Daggers seem a bit different though, most replicas are so cheesy they are laughable. Best place is probably sale sections here, WAF or other TR themed forums ,,, Though like anything else, guys tend to start off high but often end up going low.
