Than You Gentelmen for Your kind words. I'm really suprised that US rings are even in US harder to buy. Anyway today I have received my latest buy. It is absolutly non military ring but buing it in Poland is really interesting. Can You tell me something about this ring and this kind of rings ?

That is a college basketball championship ring made by the Jostens company. They make a lot of class rings and sports rings. It looks like a player issued one, but hard to tell for me as they also make reproductions for public purchase. But I would lean towards player issued.

That is correct, dak..in fact this particular ring is an sec championship ring (be careful wearing that one at the SOS in kentucky! ) (Kentucky is usually the sec champ.) in fact it appears to have been issued to the assistant coach, Brad Dunn. Very famous team...the coach was Nolan Richardson who went on to lead his team in 1994 to the national championship. (Also something people in Kentucky know a lot about...and probably aren't too crazy about Arkansas winning!) those could be diamonds? Have no idea how brads ring made it to Poland. A pawnbroker or sports memorabilia store in Arkansas would buy or consign that I'm sure g. Unless Brad Dunn did something to disgrace himself...then by all means, bring it to Kentucky.

the maker is very famous company. Just about every High School ring ordered is from them!!
Nice ring,,but don't think that's a players ring,,,not elaborate enough...
But really,,,how the hell does something like that end up in Poland!?! crazy

Yep that's weird...anyway former Arkansas assistant coach Brad Dunn is currently the GM of "hawgsillustrated.com" a magazine for Razorbacks fans accessible through scout.com and social media like Facebook....maybe we should ask him? I seem to remember coach Richardson getting fired, maybe he took it hard and sold his ring...doesn't look like he ever coached again...

Question to US ring guys just out of curiosity. Is that a common to see such porosity on inside of modern rings made by big firm?

There are less original rings than you think, much less...

I guess it depends on how and how often it was worn and on storage condotions.

Porosity like this is from manufacturing process, not wear and storage condition.

Good question hap...dak is right about it being the company that does all the class rings....I know if high school kids can afford them, and the amount of rings they make each year...gotta be in the millions, it's probably made pretty cheaply and they replicate millions of rings per pattern, I would guess they cut costs where they can...my high school girlfriends ring had a design of our mascot on the shank of her ring and it cracked one day - and sometime later the "head" of the mascot (we were the Knights) fell off!!

This time something different. A lot of You know African rings made for Germans in 1941 (DAK Rings). I have bought this one made probably by the same guys in Africa in 1943 for Polish Army :-). This one comes with the letter confirming who owned this ring durring the war. It was Polish soldier of Anders Army who fought in Africa in 1943 and in Europe (Monte Cassino too). He used to live in Great Britain. In 1970's he returned to Poland and died in 1989. I know his name, date of birth and where he was burried. All I need is his picture (working on it). I have all this knowledge directly from his brothers son (who sold me the ring). Enjoy.

Great ring, G! Not too often that you can get the backstory on a ring. The gold top Iraq rings are a bit more uncommon than the Niello ones...nice detail in the design too. Definitely a winner!

I can tell you H.S. rings in the 70s where I lived you had a choice.. Gold, Sterling Silver, and a 'economy' ring. Probably a base/pot metal, maybe plated etc. Even though that ring looks nice on the outside, if its not hallmarked sterling it the economy ring , hence the inside problem.. Which could happen as easy as acids produced from your fingers, introduction to chemicals [soaps] . but as Hap mentions is stems from the original manufacture technique/materials..

Nice Iran ring you got there too!

I have noticed that I was away for a couple of months since January so I decided to bring this thread back to life :-). here are couple of rings I have bought in the meantime.

First one Romanian Royal ring, second one is WW1 german (wound badge) ring and third one is my little precious german WW1 in memory of entering Warsaw in 1915.

Hope You will find them interesting ?

This ring is a kind of souvenir (andenken) ring made in 1915 co celebrate entering to Warsaw by German army on 5-th of August 1915. This ring is one of a kind and I know only one more which owns another collector. This one is a dug found that is why it looks a little tired but until better one comes this one is a precious part of my collection.
