Chief, is the grip insert ivory? My opinion is the same as Teds with the one reservation that if that is real ivory, we need to take another look. I am not sure if genuine ivory would be used on a tourist dagger. On the other hand the the blade decoration seems a bit odd.
Anyone else?

I have seen discussions here about a hot pin test where you super heat a straight pin and see if it will penetrate the surface. But, I do not know if it works. I would take it to a jeweler and see if he can identify it.
Sorry I could not be more help. You might post the question in the community center as I am sure there are people here who can give you a better answer.
The fact is there are still daggers out there we don't really know about. I purchased what looked like a crude soviet Russion dagger with an ivory grip. I later noted the scabbard was covered with the enamel the Russians used on their eggs and other art pieces. Some time later it was discovered that this was one of a handful of pre WWII Russian Admirals daggers. So you never can tell.
Good luck
Jim

The hot pin test will just tell you IF its plastic/resin or not.. You have to determine between if its Ivory or Bone!

There is a very simple test. Try it with your teeth. If you feel cold then it is ivory, if not then it is bone or anything else

I put it against my teeth, and it does not feel cold, or anything else for that matter! Maybe I should just list it on eBay? Chief
