I always liked the combat wrapped japanese swords!
Just something that brings a visual vison of Japanese officer with sword!
My friends son just did a little talk of ww2 at outside show!
I took a few pics of a sword and will try to add more!

Japanese swords are very popular things and nobody including the moderator has not even said a peep!
If I would show on other forum it would lite up!
I have some other swords to show and things but if collectors here are not interested I will just post on other forum!

I have not seen the wrapped handle before.

I hear that a few hard core dagger collectors are the only ones keeping this site alive. This used to be a great site and it's a shame what it's turn out to be particuarly for us old timers.

mean it was done in the field? I have one
wrapped with leather strip. Havent seen one like it before.

Thanks for looking!
Many were on the islands and conditions not good for long periods of time!
I have seen other ways to wrap!
My quess to protect sword!
Lets hope others chime in! Thats a good question!
I have my thought and sure others do!

I DO NOT HAVE ONE SWORD THAT IS WRAPPED.I HAVE NOT SEEN ANY WRAPPED LIKE THAT THEY JUST HAVE A COVER OVER THE GRIP. MAYBE A GI DID IT ?

just have to say this to you thank you so much for your time and effert here keeping all of us guys dreams and wishes alive especially on this japanese forum you keep posting more and more nice original japanese ww2 items . the sword that you show here with the leather wrap handle was done by a japanese officer sorry no american soldier leather wraped any sword . also the sword some times came with a leather cap to go over the top of sword handle to keep and protect the cloth wraping from deteriation in time as the heat would rot the cord the rain and the heat temp on those islands were harsh . over the years i have had a few leather wraped japanese sword handles over the years like yours . paul please keep up your great work for our forum thanks andy militarynut

Thanks for looking and responding! Andy! Your alive!!!!  Nice to see you post and share your thoughts! I have seen many and might have pics of bottom wrapped in leather! Do you think its the elements in jungles maybe for protection! Bob At Roberts Center this week I bet we see a few! Any other collectors see them or have! I think the moderator is in jungle!  He is putting up a good fight on WAF island! PVON

Never tire of seeing nice swords!Hope this coming year brings more to look at!
I don't mind seeing ww2 swords as they were used and carried during conflict! American GI brought home these prized items!
Yes everyone loves the special swords that are works of art!

Nice swords and accouterments! The leather combat cover is to protect the tsuka under it, simply for protection. And yes, there is another type that fully covers the handle.

Here's one fresh out of the attic. standard Gunto with a seki blade so nothing special. Signed Hidetoshi.
Interesting part is it seems to have a field repair to the leather saya cover with another piece of leather have been put on the lower part and the joint covered with a canvas cord wrap.
Has a surrender label on it but kanji are too faded to be able to read it.
Didn't pay a lot for it (well not on the UK).
