The left side has, in contrast with the right side, a little square..

Backside…Inside left an engraved square , right a raised square (little plate)....
Do the 3 little squares , 2 inside and 1 outside have a meaning?
Cheers, Benten

Very cool ring, Benten. The hourglass and scythe are symbols associated with Father Time or the Grim Reaper, and represent our human mortality. The Masons use them too, so this ring might be one of theirs.

the squares could be some part of the manufacturing....
This is a weird one... I always thought it was some sort of a Momento Mori ring.. Then a friend showed me a period photo of it in wear! Pretty sure if was either Finnish of Nordic volunteers..Interesting piece...

benten, I've probably mentioned this before, but I sure wish I had your photography skills, as well as your ring collection. Excellent to say the least.

Gaspare, that is also a square; this one is only on left outside . No square on the right outside. You should expect that more behind on the band ,after the stars, it will be identical, but because the extra square it isn't.
So because of 2 squares inside and this 3.one outside, I thought it could have a meaning. Possible it is like you said, inside squares could have to do with the production .
Cheers, Benten

bumping this up for a friend. Was asking what does a real Momento Mori ring actually look like..
Well,, this is a classic. Has most everything you'd want to see on one! Hour glass, skulls, scythe, stars... These have a decent value. IF you find an old one the value can be quite high. also bee on the look out,,some have a locket cartouche with a lock of the deceased hair in it!

True, and often high quality gold as well. I actually saw one from 1705 on eBay a while back, but it was abut 2k.
