I was a die hard SOS guy for years. But started going back to the MAX again a couple years ago and now that's my new show. Its a long drive or a expensive plane ride to the SOS and I can't justify either anymore. The MAX the last couple years is exactly like the SOS now and its a 5 hr ride for me so its a no contest.

Now The ring.....It is what it is. Yes it looks like some DAK rings. That's because the guys that make them know,,silver is soft, copper is too and both easy to work with. The embellishments are either a sharpened metal bit and maybe a roller wheel.
Not much to them and they come out looking very similar.. That is for sure the Hungarian emblem and they were probably in L'viv [L'vov, L'wow, Lemberg] as occupiers or to do 'Police actions' and to leave the Germans to fight elsewhere!

I was away for a while but still on hunt. In the meantime I have found some nice rings (mainly Prussian and Polish). Some of them are in delivery but I want to share with You this littles I already have in hand.

First one is nice Prussian 1914 - 1916 with enameld Prussian Kriegsflag. Silver marked 800

Next three are closing my temporary collection of Polish army rings. I have already WOW - Warsaw Military Area ring (shown above). Now I have bought three brothers similar to WOW ring. For now I have discovered that the one with mermaide it is 1st Warsaw Pancer Brigade. Next two I'm trying to explore.

Thanks to one of this forum member I was able to buy this ring. I have a strong feeling that there is something missing in the eye holes.

Just because I'm studying these now, perhaps this is where my idea comes from...could it have been made from some kind of ID tag? Maybe captured tag?

Byz,,,,the were made /discovered by a regular Army solder on duty at the WestWall that had some time on his hands.
Doodling, playing around with the tons and miles of barbwire, baleing wire around he came up with the ring.
A nice looking thing , has a catchy look and soon he was making them for his friends,,then for friends of friends, then for soldiers to send home to their family. He developed a little business making them and he was off!! I have the full story with photos of the originator, excellent translations from various period publications from our own 'Odal' and more all coming soon.

I prefer call them the 'Original WestWall ring' Some call them the Wire wound ring,,,and all other variations with emblems, designs etc. simply 'WestWall / WestFront rings'

Easy the most fun to collect as the variations seem endless! Every collection needs at least one of the Origunal WW ring in them. Check out the WW ring topic of course to see just some of the variations!

G.,,,thats a real nice load you got there,,they all look like winners too!
Yes Odal I agree, time to watermark photos sadly............

Few days ago a friend sold me a ring which came off the ground. It was badly damaged (band was broken, burned and missing). This is how it looked before I decided to bring it back to life.

Sorry, while looking at the deeper sections of the shoulders a ring i don`t like really blush
In my opinion ground dug silver hasn`t such "corrosion".

Dear odal there is no corrosion. Belive me. The ring was partially burned and this arm was bent and broke. As I said no corrosion at all.

hi gottlieb
i have to agree with odel on this ring it is not corrosion more ground rot then corrosion and doesnt appear to have been burned look on the one side of ring it is ground rotted . i feel the same way with what we can see this ring appears to have been buried probly for 70 years in the ground well any way it is what it is thanks for showing this historic ring best andy militarynut

#2 it is Polish Airborn forces ring (16 th Airborn forces Battalion - 16bpd). Here You can find some info about this unit (unfortunetly not English http://www.16bpd.wp.mil.pl/pl/1.html). Ring is made of silver marked 925. It was founded to celebrate 50th anniversary of this unit but the very begining of Polish (red berets) was in 1937.

That Naples ring is nice as the silver ones are harder to find, but not trench made, and not German either, IMHO. That'd be an Allied ring after the town was liberated.

Cold, heat, pressure, moisture, fuel oil,,sometimes salt water, being next to dissimilar metals etc. The ground and time do some strange things to metals!

The Naples and Polish Para are good catches!

You guys should do a campaign ring topic, doesn't matter, Allied or Axis,, - Krim, Crete, Sicily ,DAK etc.

I have to disagree with Andy, the Hungarian Lemburg ring isn't Tunisian although manufacturing styles are quite similar. The hallmarks on the shank look European without a pic with greater clarity.
