Gentlemen,

today I want to show you my new addition, an Imperial Navy dagger, M1890. The former owner of the dagger, Max Knaisel, was in 1914 the Kapitänleutenant. In 1916 he was commander of the torpedo boat S 140. The crown of the dagger has a hole. In my opinion the owner has let it make an "open" Officer's crown. In 1903 he has gotten his patent as lieutenant. And it may be that he wanted to modify the crown of his dagger just in this simple way.
I hope you like the dagger.

Best regards,
Oleg.

Thank you very much, Hermann.

Not just the blade is wonderful on this dagger. Please take a look at the grip after cleaning. smile

It is a lovely dagger and congratulations.
The grip is in fantastic condition, not many survive
Without splitting.
Personally I like the grime of ages but it certainly cleaned up well!

You will have a big smile for a long time - I know I would ;-)

... it is remarkable that 1890 dagger grips are often w/o any damage. This dagger obviously was worn for a long time, but the grip is still a beauty.
Yes, cleaning is a matter of personal taste, Landser is right. But just wait for a few decades, the traces of time will return. 😉

As said, nice dagger.

I have always marveled at the skill required to engrave names and dedications on these Imperial pieces. After one sees a lot of them you come to recognize the style. These were done by hand using engraving tools. It sure took a steady hand. The name on your dagger Oleg is particularly large, well executed and preserved. Sometimes they are hard to read due to wear. Nice dagger!

Thanks for showing. I never tire of the sophistication of these early Imperial Navy daggers. Best..Rick

Yeah, first time I see an engraving at this area of the scabbard on an 1890 pattern dagger, how cool is that!

Usually they were engraved under the scabbard throat on the reverse.
