Very nice!!! Formed in 1942, eventually (1944) became Transportkorps Speer. Not the common NSKK type

- yeah that's a nice one PF!
In extreme cases I have 'glass beaded' tags. And, a couple times I've had them 'walnut shell' blasted.
Tags with high amount of corrosion on them will sometimes still keep corroding! Yours has seem to been neutralized and you just have the damage that has been done. Some just take a heavy brush and mild soap. When dry they'll add a bit of baby powder to see the stampings. I've seen guys sand down their tags then go with finer paper and finer [a lot of work!] .Everyone has their own ideas!

Thx guys! I think I'm gonna leave it like it is... don't want to damage it. Now i need a Kriegsmarine and SS Erkennungsmarke to complete my small collection. Lol

Added a few more tags to the Reference. While not commonly seen, (except the RAD tag) most are fairly inexpensive.

Vern,, LAH tags are usually to a training and replacement unit.. And, are marked on the back SS-VT or the long version. A good LAH tag is anywhere between $300 and $500. when you can find them.. Even a tag like that SS Prag example brings a few hundred.
I have a few LAH I'll dig them out and post after the MAX.

Here is another fairly scarce tag. This is a Polizei Erkennungsmarke from Verwaltungs area Munich. It is interesting because it has the blood group (B) on the reverse. My understanding is that some tags have the blood group while some do not. Any idea when they started putting this information on the tags?

when the tide of the war changed and the Nazis started really losing battles even those with a blood group tattoo on their arm started putting the blood type on their tags! I mean what good is the tattoo if your arm was blown off! War is hell.....
Cool tag!,, you have Shuma tag?? [always wanted one!]

So the Polizei dog tag for Munich is a scarce one. Is it the same for Berlin (or other cities)?

I can get a polizei dog tag which says S.G.K 660 Polizei Verwaltung Berlin. Not sure if it's a good one. I'll try to get some pics.

Gaspare, thanks for the information. And, no I do not have a SCHUMA tag but I would like to as well.
Panzerfaust, I think most Police tags are fairly scarce since there were a lot fewer police units. While the Munich administrative area was pretty large Berlin would be larger still. Munich was a training area for several active service police units and that makes it interesting to me having been there several times. I am not sure what S.G.K. 660 might indicate as it is not a standard Berlin Police marking. The number is also too high for one of the Police Battalions.

OK, thanks for the pictures. This configuration with "West" does conform to Berlin Police markings. I am still not certain what the "S.G.K." markings indicate but the tag looks right from what I can see.

According to the seller S.G.K. means Sicherungs Gruppen Kommando. If this is correct or not that I don't know. I would go more for Sicherheits instead of Sicherung based on the abbreviation for the SD (Sicherheits Dienst). Any thoughts?

According the the "Erkennungs Unit Abbreviations" posted in the GDC Reference Gallery, it stands for "Schutzpolizei Gruppen Kommando".

Can't find info about this SGK 660 in the Lexikon der Wehrmacht. Other sources are pretty vague and are talking about Schutzpolizei (Berlin etc) operations in the Prague region after the assassination of Heydrich. Maybe I should get in touch with the Bundesarchiv to see if they have any info on this unit. I'll keep you guys posted!

some more SS.
These are just some of my best tags. I was always guarded of them, never showing them anywhere. Worried they would get copied, use the photos for sales of fake tags etc. But after almost losing them I've decided to have others see and enjoy them,,maybe even selling a few.....

- ,,yeah they are. At the MAX they were crazy high.. I got $400. for a nice Germania VT tag,,and $40 for a infantry tag..
Something like the 2 SS I have up here are about the same price,,the WestLand tag probably more! Good ones are just not out there anymore,,in collections and that's that..
I'm going to move a couple SS tags and will probably offer them here for the GDC guys first if they're interested..

Oh boy... $400/piece! That's very expensive however i understand that you have to pay the price to own a piece of history. It's the same with daggers, helmets,...

2. Schwere Reserve Flak Abteilung 123 Erkennungsmarke. This one has a nice history that can be traced on the Lexikon der Wehrmacht.
Formed 26.8.39 in Berlin-Lankwitz from parts of I./Flak-Regiment 12, with 1. - 5. Batterien (1. - 3. schwere and 4. - 5. leichte). Until 7.41 known as Reserve-Flak-Abteilung 123, until 7.42 as Reserve-Turmflak-Abteilung 123, and until 9.43 as Turmflak-Abteilung 123.
2./Res.123 became 2./Flak-Regiment 42.
My latest addition to my collection!
Gruss,
Gerry

Nice one Gerry. As the war progressed these flak guys or should I say 'skilled' flak guys were worth their weight in gold.
also some wonder about low digit roll numbers.. Well this probably wasn't someone's first tag. Their first tag was probably to a training & replacement unit. That being lost then they would get a tag like this...

Byz.,,quick story about that Westland tag. It's super rare. About 13 years ago I posted it here. A few questioned the tag. I knew it was good and knew where it came from. So,,we had a European member whos Grandfather was in Westland. He shows the GrandF the tag and the guy flips out! He says,,the tag is exactly as his tag was,,and,,his tag is only 2 roll numbers away from mine! And, that he probably 99% knew and went into battles with the guy!!
*Now these 3 tags are not mine. They are from a members site , John Casino.. All good ones and nice examples to show.. One is a Artillery tag for replacement unit.. Next is for a construction unit [Bau] also replacement unit.. Many think they were ditch diggers etc. [and many were] but by wars end these guys were important,,they could get bridges, landing strips going, as well as fighting trenches, and fought their ******** off in Germany! Last he has a couple POW tags,,or sometimes called Stalag tags. These were tags for Allied prisoners. This camp 366 I always heard was just for Soviets and a terribly tough camp. The info on site is a little different ,,anyway 2 nice tags!

I have two... one to a Flak regt that came with a Holler single etched bayonet.
The other to a flying squadron came to me along with the dagger, the accoutrements and a bunch of pictures. The package is named to a flying officer.

Nice!!
Guys remember,, Complete tags that are in good condition are usually from a survivor..
A complete tag that was ground dug is usually a lost tag or from a M.I.A. When you buy them try and get the location where they were found. Many sellers are the actual digger or sometimes know where the tag came from. You can make a simple paper copy of the tag and write on the back the location where you think it might have come from and send to the proper agency in Germany, cost to you will probably be around a dollar. You might help a family to know where their loved one finally rests..
