Gentlemen, the blade is nice imho, shows cross-grain throughout the entire blade up to the very end of the tip. I like the early maker mark. Hope you guys like this dagger as I do. Best; Flyingdutchman

Wonderful condition all around. I have yet to see a dagger that was produced with a slant grip and type "A" generic fittins though. Is the blade tang the early tapered type? How is the fit of the components? Puma did use this type fitting so it may be a transitional piece? This is not the early maker mark either? Interesting! Kevin.

Kevin, matching Patina, components fit is perfect imo. Hate to take them apart, but no problem. Tommy Wittmann shows an identical dagger with the generic A-type fittings on page 93 in his green book. Thanks for your help. Best; Hermann

Hermann, I will have to check out the example in Whittmann's book..The fact that it does not have a tapered tang and has a slant grip is quite unusual but not the kiss of death for sure becouse we are allways learning! I have a SMF Heer out of the woodwork that is the same, no tapered tang and a slant..Christianswerk also mated a slant grip with generic fittings but they were type "B". Very neat and is very evenly conditioned as you say. Like to see others take on it. Kevin.

Kevin,
as you know. When it comes to non-textbook examples it is always a problem. They may be perfectly legit, but one have to explain a lot. Usually I do not like that in a field which is not mine. I'm a navy dagger guy, as you know.
One thing here causes me wonder. You can't move the crossguard over the tank to take it apart. Maybe with force, but I don't want. I have a return privilege on this item, maybe I should use it. The dagger is not cheap, and I have to work for my money. Best; H.

Hermann Kevin is spot on and giving you some good facts to consider. To many explanations needed on this piece not a piece I would add to my collection.

@ Flyingduchman, the crossguard was sometimes struck into place to fit the final sit on the tang which might cause a squeeze of the slot of the crossguard. Lateron, when trying to disassamble such a dagger it is ddifficult to get it back over the tang.
Generally I would also be careful to see a slant grip with this crossguard but I have learned that nearly nothing is impossible in our hobby. But you just have to have "explanations".

Hermann see Gary’s post on his ivory slant gripped Puma. Note the hilt fittings – crossguard & maker mark these are what you would typically expect to find on a Slant grip Puma. Ivory Slant Puma

Ivory Slant Puma ... yeah, I see what you mean. It's odd. The parts are matching perfectly, there is not a single rim between grip, pommel or to the crossguard ring. Patina is nicely. It causes me wonder. Best; Hermann

... yes, that was my fault. I deleted it by error on photobucket. One can not re-install the photos with the old link.
I have to say sorry to the fellow members.
Alien is right, same dagger in his link.
Sorry again.
Best; Hermann

One of the many reasons why..it is worth to take the extra step and save it to ones own computer. Im not one for outside photo hosting sites..which at no notice,,, your hard worked editing is gone in an instant. Good save Alien by bringing the link back to the thread regards Larry

Larry, you're right. Cause usually I'm using IPad it's way more easier to use a hosting service. But, as said, you're right. I'm thinking of changing this. Best; Hermann
