Gents,

I picked up a decent Police Officer cockade for the Tschako over the weekend and it has a little aluminum pest deterioration. Any way of treating this on aluminum bullion or should I just brush away the dust and carry on?

Unfortunately NO, there is no way to remove the oxidation. Actually the metallic content IS the white "pest". If you treat or remove it there will be nothing there. I have looked into this for a long time. There is no known way to reverse the process.

Agree. It also occurs with some forms of zinc and it cannot be cured. I have some German made Marklin trains from 1949-1950 with this and have long sought a cure.

Thanks gentlemen. I was afraid that was the answer but we never know until we ask. It appears that this cockade was wet and put away at one time so it is what it is. These guys are hard to find in any condition in my experience.
