An early Eickhorn 1st Luft' with a detachable chain set. Have seen this once before, also on an early Eick'. Tom Wittmann shows a picture of just the chain set on page 58 of his Luftwaffe book.
Ist Lufts' of all vintage are a favorite of mine, stunning Art Deco design and top quality build.

L. to R.

Horster
Weyersberg
Wusthof
Eickhorn
E-Pack

That's it for those.
The Wusthof, and E-pack are in a league of their own due to condition.

I couldn't agree more. Super piece there Barry, a detachable chain 1st luft is must have for a 1st Luft collector, but very hard to find.

Here's what Barry is talking about in Tom Wittmann's Luftwaffe Tome;

Here's a SMF detachable chained Transitional 1st Luft.

I am of the opinion that these was a early short-lived, extra-cost option, offered by only the premier makers of SMF and Eickhorn. It was soon not available when mass production began. (just a guess, but many were not produced as few are ever seen). Note the DLV type large staples still used here.
Glad you brought yours up Barry. There is still so much we don't know.

Thanks Tom.
On the Wusthof I had to buy two other 1st Lufts and one Luft sword to get THAT Wusthof....but it was worth it. I'm sure you been there on a 'Group Deal', ALL of Nothing.

Gents,
beautiful daggers, thanks for sharing!

What makes me want a dagger? Since I focusing on Heer daggers, my answer is so simple: slant grip, early production and/or rare TM.

A real group of the good stuff! Much too nice not to share close ups of these beauties!

The white? Makers of these? Please take close ups!

Any glass grips? Ivory?

Great taste!

Guys,
thank you very much for your comments. I have made this photos more than a month ago while I was organizing my daggers, so I have to identify the daggers by the picture...
I attached the photo again for easier identification.

From left to right:
1. Paul Weyersberg
2. Paul Weyersberg
3. Eickhorn (non-slant)
4. Höller
5. Spitzer
6. Höller
7. SMF
8. Hörster
9. Eickhorn (non-slant)
10. Unmarked
11. Hörster
12. Plümacher
13. AES
14. KLAAS
15. WKC
16. Paul Weyersberg
17. Höller
18. Paul Weyersberg
19. Wingen
20. WKC
21. Tiger

I am not sure about a few of them, but I can make closeups if you would like to. I have some more early armies which are not shown on the photo (PACK, Eickhorn, Chistianswerk, Tiger).

PVON,
no glass grips, and only one ivory (Eickhorn slant ivory grip, not shown on the photo)

Janos

OOPS: there is a WKC between the 6. Höller and 7. SMF. Sorry.

Janos I would be very happy with that dagger in my collection. Kevin I never get tired of seeing that dagger its one of the finest slants I have ever seen. Regarding the crossguard I believe it’s a unique type an early generic. I have seen it on Plumacher-Axt-Voos
