Yes, I have well over 100, but will continue with eBay. I've got to keep the hired help busy with photographing and packaging.
She also does windows and laundry and helps my wife with the housework.

Guys, I go by hard facts, let take out the opinions, just look at the numbers. Its that simple. Ed is right you MUST know how to work it on the swings. You must buy low and sell high, most people do the opposite. Gold Coins are IMO better as they are more collectable and not as volatile.

Skyline, John, middle man to sell gold? Gold is a myth? Not really. All types of people buy and sell gold direct. People have traded gold since the dawn of man.

Another fact, never place all you eggs in one basket, All I am saying is diversify and you will be fine.

You can sell gold directly to other collectors at Coin & Stamp shows. Same thing as the guys wandering around militaria shows with a few choice daggers stuck in their belt.

As you can clearly see every time a recession appears Gold prices rise briefly. Thus this is now the upswing in the market, and It will not last too long IMO. Well 4 years to be exact..well w/ the current socialist president in power.

This is a 30 year chart. I love data, takes all the "smoke and mirrors" out of the conversation

one can make money and be successfull buying or selling gold, stock, daggers, guns etc as long it is a full time job and you know what you are doing. But back to daggers, Russians were buying like crazy for the past 4 or 5 years. Now the market is almost dead there. It is a fact. And this is just the begining of downturn in Russia, China or Europe. US is very resilient and will come back soon, but the prices IMO were mostly pumped up by Russians and Europian buyers. The dealers know it. So the buyers market is coming. We just have to sit and wait and safe money of course.

How many did you ship to China Ron? Wink I do not want to be sarcastic but I am Russian and know many people in Russia. There are troubled times now and wait until the end of the year when the Russian government runs out o funds to pay pensions to older folks. Times are changing, IMO we should hold on to cash. The prices of a common SA will go down. It is not worth $1200 or $1300 what it used to be a year ago.

Besides, in my understanding you are a full time dealer unlike us small time collectors and you should be selling in a good or bad times that is your profession.

Hey get real , quit trying to prop up the crappy dagger business, ask Hogle how fast his 1st luft are moving..or the DLV for $880 , sure sold right away but last year it would be way higher. Getting really sick of this artificial enthusiasm of how great and solid the dagger collecting business is...its down flat out so admit it . Gold is a totally different story. Precious metals versus daggers.....no comparisson.Getting really irritating reading this crap.

OOOO! Is the Illinois boy getting a little testy?
I am a collector first and a seller second. Business is good but Illinois retirement is fine also.
Gold is only a good hedge on bad times IMO and, unless you are Ed Sundy and KNOW the metals business, its much harder to manage than TR material.
I think the SOS will answer many of these comments and I will waite and see how things go.

Hmmm,let's see ...

Real estate - down
Stocks - down
Oil - down

I think some of the still-wealthy buyers went to the Yves St. Laurent Christie's auction in Paris last week. They shelled out $480,000,000 for some serious art. There were even a few pricey Turkish daggers.

According to Christie's the buyers were 70% European and 30% American.

About half of the usual European and Russian buyers will not be attending the SOS this year.

Oleg is 100% correct on the Russian market as he should be.

Many of the usual U.S. attendees of the SOS will also not make it this year. However many will be there. Of the ones I have talked to the "talk" is they are hoping to SELL.

Should be a great buying opportunity.

So let's see the dealers here reverse the negative tone and break open those heavy laden fanny packs and start restocking with conviction! Time to Load Up! Smile

Regards,
-serge-

We ALL know what Mr Weinand does for a living.
He is a Dealer in TR Militaria, with a leaning toward edged weapons. So lets get real folks.
The market is heading South.

I would like to amplify the situation, the general market is on its knees. Who is going to put money into Daggers or the like? The price of gold has hit all time highs. When you have Governments injecting Billions into their ecconomys, with as it would seem little effect, the introduction of quantative easing, what a word, were will things bee in another 12 months. One only has to look at the Sales sections on Forums, they have grown.

So the ebuliant Dagger market reported reported, seems to be bucking the trend.I wish I had collected daggers instead of medals. Must have got on the wrong bus.

So far the people in this area who are collectors are buying as usual, they prefer to have their money in high-end daggers, rather than stocks or 1% money funds. If you have a MsSarr 10 SA dagger, you can sell it here at top dollar with no problem.

Well booo hoo lets all sit around and cry about how bad things are. Woh is me, some people are just miserable no matter what is going on. Funny when things are hot the same people cry about how high prices are going. Now the market is slow they are crying about how prices have dropped.

Ever here the saying when life gives you lemons make lemonaid? I see this down turn as an opportunity.

Thank goodness for 'the russian' Wink

Glad to hear I'm not the only one thinking this. Top end/top conditioned stuff still sells easily enough - I have just sold several high end items that went far quicker than I expected and am continuing in my search of different
high end items to buy. I have also sold out a number of low end pieces - SA/army and luft daggers and so far have found selling quite easy going Cool

And yes, I am a collector, not a dealer.

Seiler:

My interests are broad and varied, too.

At the same time, my finances are short and narrowed Big Grin Big Grin

I am heading to the SOS in a couple of days with only half the cash that I took to last year's show. That being said, I have noticed a slight decline in what people/dealers list and have for sale, but no decline in what is being asked.

I expect to be a little more aggressive in asking for pricing that meets my needs this year.

I guess the only way to find out if the prices went down on a common SA is to follow a NR auctions and not the dealer sites, since we really do not know what they are selling their items for. I am sure that a hign end NM conditioned items are not affected or not that affected by the currrent market as well as prime real estate may not be that affected. But common SAs are dropping in price. Look at this auction that closed today with 12 bids. This SA would sell a year ago for 5, 6 hundred USD correct me if I am wrong and now 300 bucks with a vertical hanger and a decent scabbard
look for yourself

I'm not so sure I would be a buyer of this piece at $300. There is really nothing desireable about it IMO.

I agree with you but something like that used to sell for $500 even on E Bay when it was allowed.

I would have snapped that up for $300, I think it would have sold here quickly, for more.
I agree though, obviously nothing special.

I dont see a vertical hanger? I think alot has to do with what auction its on.I dont think i would have given 500 for it even a year ago.A marker marked one yes, but an rzm in the condition, no.I think its a good buy for somebody wanting just an SA.

1 or 3 or 5 years ago that dagger was worth $250 - $300. That is retail at a show or on a dealer's site or here on GDC's For Sale area. At auction, folks get exited and believe the story and may get carried away.

As I have said before, the low grade common stuff, no matter how well described was a slow seller 1-3-5 years ago and still is. Probably at a bigger discount. No surprise there, guys, I hope.

On the other hand better and great stuff is selling and selling well. I am in pursuit of a Mr. Shuttelhoffer of the SS at the moment Big Grin Big Grin

If you have an SS small trademark Klass, a Louper, a big trademark Eick, or an other hard to find dagger, let me know

Testy, yes Ron, from prople like you who are collectors first, yet employ people to ship and package your goods, along with wash your windows...good for you, do some work yourself , its a hobby not a business right? Thus the defiance in admitting the fact. It just amazes me that its almost unheard of that dealers wont admit this HOBBY is slower than slit right now. I mean c'mon why is it so hard to admit. Top prices always move because there top quality and folks with money can afford it..others suffer. My family owns a Caddy dealership here in DuPage Co ,Il. last recession, they always moved, but slower , but others went down! Big Grin
