Its obvious Doug...you are missing an excellent opportunity to get rid of those otherwise useless German trinkits that you have sitting in boxes..hoping that they will someday rise in value and collector desirability..... time to list my friend....Eban rules...or maybe someone just bid it up.....cheers, Ryan

Paul's right, HJ is hot right now. Also the triangle patch is a late war patch that's to a scarce unit.

The second highest bid was mine. I got outsniped by 10usd, someone put a snipe bid in seconds before mine with six seconds to go. This is a rare "other ranks" triangle for the RJF members who didn't qualify for stab or leadership positions.

Looks like hes run through his "cigar box" items.

$537.25 he got for the HJ was probably 3x what he paid for the whole box.

I'm usually leery of cigar box vet finds on ebay, this one looks legit.

I remember one guy, sold alot of TK skulls, SS pins, party badges, stuff like that.
He only showed the rear of most items, when ebay started pulling those, he photographed the pin, and nothing else.
His spiel was something like "I picked up an old cigar box full of German WW2 stuff from a vet, this was in it, I have no idea if its valuable or what it is, am selling as is".
Opening bids were always $9.99, and he sold alot of them, sometimes over $100, sometimes $9.99, and everywhere in between.
His FB was oddly pretty good, most folks seem to have thought they got a great bargain, getting something for $30 that they have seen on dealer sites for $250.
This went on for months, hundreds of items sold.

I mailed him, said wow, that magic cigar box of yours never seems to run empty.
He mailed back, yeah, theres alot of stuff in there, I'm running low now.

I mailed him back, well, you can always get some more here, along with a link to one of those repro sites, that sell these things for $10 ,, Which, of course, is where he was getting them from in the 1st place.

I don't know about that "cigar box" story he put up with the auction, but I got some extra pics of the triangle and it is a legit one. Matches the one in the new Saris book perfectly. Like people are always saying, buy the item not the story. Triangles aren't really my area, this was going to be a trade item if I had won it.

Mainly my point was the items being worth that much money. The board is plain Jane.Basically $500.00 for the arm triangle.

Btw, if anyone wants to spend too much money, I have some HJ items that could break your bank!!!

Thank you e-bay! Big Grin

I agree Doug, some things defy common logic.
Some things you'd figure would cost half an arm + a leg, and they are fairly reasonable ... Others you'd think are a dime a dozen, and turn out being worth their weight in gold.

I had no idea about these, if I was buying that from a vet I would have offered $30, figuring it would sell $50 to $60.

The strap was just an extra in that auction. That triangle would easily sell for 400 or more Euro at Wietze or others like him. Doug, I'm always looking for "difficult" HJ straps so let me know if you have any for sale.

Wow, thats nuts.
Worth bearing in mind though.

Could technically get that item pulled for showing part of the HJ diamond.

Odd school and unit HJ Triangles have been hot for the past 5 years. More in demand in Germany and Europe, HJ items seem to be leading the pack of hot items in TR collecting today.

Agreed Ronald. HJ insignia does not sit up for sale very long in many cases. I've seen the price and demand increase, especially with the new Saris book is in circulation now.

Seems this would have been a good investment at 537 USD. Wietze sold one exactly like this from a horde he bought at the SOS for 1200 Euro. With the current exchange rate that's a lot of USD.
