F.W. Holler Heer Type 2 crossguard with the punched eye and four tool marks to head. Tapered tang with horizontal cross grain running down the center segment of the blade. The scabbard has the punched acorn detail you sometimes see with this configuration.

Tom:

That is the 17 tick Holler TM. There are two others that I know of, a 12 tick and a 19 tick one. I count the ticks on the right hand side of the thermometer.

I think that the 12 tick is a late war, but could be wrong.

Nice dagger, by the way.

That is a beautiful example of the type. Far les common than you might think. The scabbard bands & pomell are very nicely detailed. Good catch Tom! Who wants to hear a collector yarn? Nobody, but here goes anyway.

Firt army & only second dagger I ever bought was one of these. Got it from the classified ads on this forum way back before there was a `for sale forum`. Knew nothing much then and didn`t realise what a stroke of luck I`d had for a long time. Happy days before the dealers humped the prices beyond true value.

I do own the exact twin of this dagger, with all mentioned features up to the punched acorns, also the somehow special grip form and color but with the added blade etching of the austrian/viennese deliverer DÜRBECK.
It is said that it is an in house (by HÖLLER) specially enhanced crossgard from PACK.
Very nice dagger and skillful photographs here.
Regards,

Tom,
beautiful specimen in wonderful condition, congratulation.
Well worth to visit the SOS!

I remember the disappeared topic about these Höllers written by Ford Crews.
Since then I am looking for one.

Nice piece Tom,

I purchased one of these rare birds from Ford Crews about 5 years ago with all the same characteristics as yours. It is also personalized A. Geiger on the blade. I later discovered it was also personalized between the scabbard rings "Albert Geiger". Haven't been able to discover any information yet on this guy.

My TM is also the 17 tick variety.

Also note the vertical grain on the blade flat, typical of holler blades.

Tom and Fitzer, GREAT examples of this type of Holler. Condition is super on both also!! I love the hand work on the fittings and really like the scabbard bands, best out there I think. I don't know what it is about these Holler Heer's but they always seem to have a great looking patina on them, must have been the way they plated them or one of the steps they took in finishing? Kevin.

It's ALL in the DETAILS!!.......
